Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southeast of Guizhou province, on the southeast edge of Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, more than 160 kilometers away from Guiyang city. It neighbors Hunan in the east and connects Guangxi in the south. The mysterious and beautiful natural scenery, colorful cultural landscapes and rich ethnic customs are the source of the charm of Qiandongnan(southeast Guizhou). Qiandongnan covers a total area of 30,337 square kilometers, with a distance of 220 kilometers from east to west and a span of 240 kilometers from north to south. Qiandongnan has jurisdiction over 1 county-level city and 15 counties, among which Kaili City and Liping County are extremely well-known for their Miao and Dong villages.

- Ethnic Minority Villages: Kaili, the capital of Qiandongnan prefecture, is well-known for Miao and Dong ethnic culture. The largest, most famous and well-constructed minority villages in Kaili include Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village and Langde Miao Village. Liping, situated in the south of Qiandongnan, is famed as "the town of dong people". There are many Dong villages, including Zhaoxing Dong Village.
- Ethnic Groups: There are 33 ethnic groups such as Miao, Dong, Han, Buyi, Shui, Yao, Zhuang and Tujia living in Qiandongnan, among which Miao people and Dong people take up 42.7% and 29.9% respectively.
- Ethnic Festivals: Qiandongnan is known as the land of festivals. There are more than 200 festivals in a year. Main ethnic festivals include Lusheng Festival, Papo(爬坡) Festival, Sister's Meal Festival and Miao's New Year of Miao people; Dong's New Year, Wrestling Festival and Linwang Festival(林王节) of Dong people; Duan Festival(端节) of Shui people; and Panwang Festival(盘王节) of Yao, etc.
- Ethnic Crafts: The main ethnic crafts include Miao batik, Dong brocade as well as embroidery of Miao and Dong.
- Famous Attractions: In addition to ethnic minority villages like Basha Miao Village, Jidao Miao Village and Qingman Miao Village, there are also natural landscapes and cultural relics in Qiandongnan, including Zhenyuan Ancient Town, Flying Clouds Cliff(Feiyun Cliff), Leigongshan Nature Reserve and Kaili Ethnic Minorities Museum, etc.
