Located in northwestern Xinjiang (新疆), Yining City (伊宁市), also known as Ghulja (غۇلجا) in Uyghur and Qulja (قۇلجا) in Kazakh, is the capital of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture (伊犁哈萨克自治州).
