6 Days Xilingol Grassland and Chengde Culture Tour from Beijing

Covering more than 10,786 square kilometers, Xilingol Grassland is considered one of the world-famous grasslands, and also one of the main natural pasture of Inner Mongolian Grassland. During this tour, we will enjoy the grassland scenery and learn more about its history and local custom. What’s more, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Chengde – Mountain Resort and Little Potala Palace are also included in this itinerary.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Beijing – Duolun

Sightseeing and Activities:

In the early morning, picked up by tour guide and transferred to Duolun County, Xilin Gol League. It is about 400km.

Day 2 Duolun – Shangdu – Zhenglan Qi

Sightseeing and Activities: Dolon-nuur Lake, Huizong Temple, the Site of the Yuan Dynasty Upper Capital, Jinlianchuan Prairie, Shangdu Museum

Huizong Temple in Duolun County, Inner Mongolia

In the morning, we will head to Dolon-nuur Lake, a placid grassland lake. Then move on to Huizong Temple. Originally built by the Kangxi emperor in 1711, the temple was staffed by monks from the 120 banners of Mongolia.

The next stop is the Site of the Yuan Dynasty Upper Capital. In 1256, the capital of the largest imperial Yuan dynasty, was established at Plain Blue Banner (Zhenglan Qi).

Enjoy Jinlianchuan Prairie (part of the world famous Xilingol Grassland), the most beautiful grassland in Inner Mongolia with many flowers all around.

The last stop is Shangdu Museum, the biggest private-sponsored museum in Inner Mongolia. There are over 60,000 pieces of artifacts, among which many are unearthed from the Site of Xanadu.

Day 3 Zhenglan Qi – West Wuzhumuqin Grassland

Sightseeing and Activities: West Wuzhumuqin Grassland, West Wuzhumuqin Nomadic Tribe, Naadam
Accommodation: Yurt
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today we will drive about 243 km to Xilinhot – the capital city of Xilingol League. Continue driving to West Wuzhumuqin Grassland(major part of Xilingol Grassland). Visit a local herder’s family, experience their folk customs and enjoy milk products.

Have lunch and then enjoy the local traditional performances such as horse-head fiddle, Mongolian singing and dancing.

In the afternoon, continue today’s tour to West Wuzhumuqin Nomadic Tribe to experience the pristine grassland and the nomadic culture. Also enjoy the picturesque view of the nine-bend river and the birch forest.

Later a small scale Naadam will be held at Genghis Khan Cultural Plaza. Have a good time and we will stay at yurt for overnight.

Day 4 West Wuzhumuqin Grassland – Keshiketeng Qi

Sightseeing and Activities: Asihatu Stone Forest
Accommodation: Keshiketeng Qi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

In the morning, drive to visit Asihatu Stone Forest, a multi-functional geological park with both stone forests and grassland.

In the afternoon, continue the tour to Dalinur Lake, the second largest lake in Inner Mongolia and one of the three swan lakes in China. Besides, visit the local museum.

Day 5 Keshiketeng Qi – Chengde

In the morning, drive to Chendge and visit Mountain Resort, one UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chengde. Mountain Resort is a large complex of imperial palaces and gardens, which is used to be the resort of emperors of Qing Dynasty.

Day 6 Chengde – Beijing

Sightseeing and Activities: Little Potala Palace

After breakfast, continue to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chengde – Little Potala Palace(Putuo Zongcheng Temple), one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. It was originally dedicated to the Qianlong Emperor to celebrate his birthday, as well as provide Hebei with a temple of equal size and splendor as the Potala Palace in Lhasa.

In the afternoon, drive back to Beijing and service ends.
