Why is Kaifeng Fu So Special?

Having a long history, Kafeng Fu (Kaifeng Prefecture) is well-known both home and abroad. It was the capital and the most important prefecture of the whole country in Northern Song Dynasty. The large-scale buildings are magnificent, dignified and elegant. Physically suffered a long course of history and natural disasters, the past of Kaifeng Fu (the Yamen of Ancient Kaifeng) has become a legend with the bricks and tiles of the old houses and streets. In replacement of the decrepit houses is the restored Kaifeng Fu with more magnificence.

Where is Kaifeng Fu?

Surrounded by three lakes and opposite to the Lord Bao’s Temple on the west bank of Lord Bao’s lake, the spot here is rather magnificent and splendid. Kaifeng Fu is located at about 2.5 km from Kaifeng Railway Station.

History of Kaifeng Fu

Kaifeng Fu was built with the construction skills and style of the Northern Song Dynasty. In its central axis stands the Main Hall, the Conference Hall, the Meihua Hall; along with more than 50 palaces and halls such as, the Tianqing Temple, the Mingli Courtyard (the place to show one’s courtesy), Qianlong Courtyard, Qingxin Building, Yingwu building, the Yanbin Hall and the prison. As a theme park, it appeals to people from all walks of life by way of representing history through exhibits and live performances. So in this Park, you will have the opportunity to see the opening ceremony of the Yamun (judicial tribunal), the judging process of Lord Bao, the welcome ceremony in the martial yard, as well as acrobatics and entertainers who can blow fire or perform mask changing tricks. It is the best place to learn about the culture of the Song Dynasty and the integrity of the Lord Bao.

The Best Time to Visit Kaifeng Fu

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October) are the best seasons to visit Kaifeng, because of the not too hot or too cold weather during that time. If you visit in summer, it is recommended to prepare the sun scream, sunglasses and other relative items to protect from the strong UV.

If for no other reason, come to Kaifeng to see the chrysanthemums and to appreciate this city’s ancient flavor. The famous Chrysanthemum Exhibition is held in Kaifeng every year from October to November. This exhibition has been held for twenty-three consecutive years. As the main venue for the exhibition, the Dragon Pavilion will become a sea of colorful chrysanthemums, and the city of Kaifeng looks its very best.
