How to Get to Kaifeng

There is no airport in Kaifeng City. Of all the airports in Henan Province, the nearest one is Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, 70 kilometers away from Kaifeng City. As of December 2018, Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport owns 55 passenger airlines, 208 passenger routes and 116 navigable cities for passengers. It is suggested to travel from Zhengzhou to Kaifeng by train, which is convenient, fast and cheaper. Besides planes, trains, long-distance buses and other modes of transportation are also available for travelling to Kaifeng. Many cities in China have direct trains and buses to Kaifeng.

By Train

The Longhai Railway in the eastern part of the Eurasian Continental Bridge traverses the entire territory of Kaifeng City, passing through Kaifeng Railway Station and Lankao Railway Station. In addition, the Zhengzhou-Xuzhou High-speed Railway parallel to Longhai Railway has Kaifeng North Railway Station and Lankao South Railway Station in Kaifeng.

Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Inter-city Railway(Intercity Trains Between Zhengzhou and Kaifeng)

The Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Inter-city Railway was put into operation in 2013, connecting the Zhengzhou high-speed railway hub station, Zhengzhou East Railway Station, and the shortest time between Zhengzhou and Kaifeng is 18 minutes. This greatly promotes the integration of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng and the process of city integration. The stations that have been opened in Kaifeng on the Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Inter-city Railway include Yunlianghe Railway Station and Songcheng Road Railway Station.

  • Songchenglu Railway Station
    Songcheng Road Railway Station is a station of Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Railway, opened on December 28, 2014. Songcheng Road Railway Station is a large-scale transportation hub integrating long-distance passenger transportation, tourism distribution and public transportation, including city square, long-distance bus station, tourism distribution center, public transportation station, office building, underground parking lot, commercial and residential urban complex and other projects. It mainly operates intercity trains to and from Zhengzhou.

  • Kaifeng Railway Station
    Kaifeng Railway Station, located in Kaifeng City, Henan Province, China, is under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou Depot of China Railway Zhengzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and was built in 1909. Opposite the railway station is Kaifeng bus station, with bus stops and taxi stops. The traffic is very convenient. Kaifeng Railway Station is 85 kilometers away from Zhengzhou Railway Station and 149 kilometers away from Shangqiu Railway Station, from which travellers can transfer to the Beijing-Guangzhou and Beijing-Jiulong railways, and reach all parts of the country.

  • Lankao Railway Station
    Lankao Railway Station, built in 1912 and opened to traffic in 1915, is a station on Longhai Railway and a mixed passenger and freight transportation station. On the Longhai Railway, Lankao Railway Station is 457 kilometers from Lianyungang Railway Station and 1302 kilometers from Lanzhou Railway Station.

By Long-distance Bus

Road traffic in Kaifeng is also very developed, with expressways from Kaifeng to Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Sanmenxia and Shangqiu. Through Zhengzhou, people can go north to Xinxiang, Anyang and even Beijing. In addition, people can go south to Xuchang, Luohe, Zhumadian and even Shenzhen. It is only a 10 minute's drive from the central area of Kaifeng to the entrance of the expressway. National Highway 106 (Beijing-Guangzhou) runs through Kaifeng from north to south. National Highway 310 (Tianshui-Lianyungang) and National Highway 220 (Kaifeng Lankao-Binzhou) meet in Kaifeng. Kaifeng bus station is opposite to Kaifeng railway station.

There are many bus stations in Kaifeng city, and coaches arrive in major cities in Henan province and neighboring provinces (cities) such as Beijing, Hebei and Shandong. The main bus terminals are Kaifeng bus station located near the railway station, and the west bus station with more long-distance bus routes.

Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Inter-city Bus

There are now special bus lines between Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, which can reach Kaifeng directly and is very convenient. Zhengzhou-Kaifeng Intercity Bus starts from Xincheng Road Railway Station in Kaifeng to Zhengzhou Long-distance Bus North Station, running time of 06:30-20:00, costing 10 yuan. In addition, there are Zhengbian intercity bus No.101 and bus No.103, etc. 

By Taxi

The starting price of Kaifeng taxis is 5 yuan/2km, and the fare for each kilometer after over 2 kilometers is 1 yuan. The taxi fare between scenic spots in the city will not exceed 15 yuan.

By Bicycle

The public bicycle transportation system built in Kaifeng has been put into use, with nearly 10,000 bicycles and dozens of pick-up points, including commercial centers, tourist attractions, main roads and government agencies. Each bicycle has GPS positioning, voice navigation, presentation about scenic spots and other functions, and can inquire about the parking place and time of bicycles at any time.

Most of the scenic spots in Kaifeng are concentrated in the urban areas, and it also has a special flavor to take the local featured human tricycles between scenic spots. According to the 1 yuan/kilometer standard, the price for one day is 80 yuan.
