Sansha city is one of the four prefecture-level cities in Hainan province. In 2012, the offices of Xisha Islands, Nansha Islands and Zhongsha Islands of Hainan province were cancelled, and Sansha city was set up. It is located in the south central part of the south China sea and the south part of Hainan province. It has jurisdiction over the reefs of Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands and Nansha Islands and their sea areas, with a total area of more than 2 million square kilometers, including a land area of more than 20 square kilometers. The seat of Government is at Yongxing Island.
