Independent Travel

For independent travelers you can 

By Bus: Take tourist bus no. 3 at Huangshan Coach Station, also called Tunxi Coach Station, and get off at Chengkan Ancient Village. It takes about 40 minutes to Chengkan. The bus departs at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, and 16:00 every day. The returning bus follows the same schedule. It also passes Qiankou Residence. You can visit the two attractions in one day.

Main Attractions in Chengkan Village

Baolun Hall

The first attraction you will encounter is Baolun Hall, a must-see spot in Chengkan Village. It is part of Luo Dongshu’s Ancestral Temple, built by Luo’s descendants to worship him. Luo Dongshu was a noted scholar as well as a hermit at the end of the Song Dynasty who made a great contribution to the Luo Family in Chengkan. The hall was first built around 1542 during the Ming Dynasty. How colors of the drawings and patterns are still vivid after 500 years remains a mystery. 

Huizhou-style Building

Chengkan Ancient Village is a perfect and typical combination of beautiful natural scenery and Huizhou-style culture art. It is famous for well-preserved ancient residential architecture of the Ming Dynasty. The ancient architectures contain elegant pavilions, bridges, houses, ancestral temples, wells, etc. Moreover, there are exquisite stone carvings, wood carvings and brick carvings on each house. It is known as the museum of well-protected ancient buildings.

Ancestral Temple

The ancestral temple of Chengkan village is noted for its architecture. The Baolun Hall in ancestral temple is a outstanding example of the refined beauty of Chengkan’s architecture. It is very fascinating to see the elaborate engravings of flowers and geometric pattern on the bluestone parapets and creative colored paintings on the beams, lintels and doorframe. The colors remain bright and fresh although throughout ages. A pair of wooden staircases ascends to the second floor on which through the finely engraved windows, visitors can have a good view of the Mt. Huangshan.
