Water-Splashing Festival to Kick off on April 13
April is not only the month of spring blossom, but also the time of the Songkran Festival, also known as the Water-Splashing Festival in China.
The Songkran Festival is the New Year’s Festival on the calendar of the Dai ethnic group, mostly residing in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.
The festival is also celebrated in countries like Thailand, the Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, and Vietnam.
The Songkran Festival falls on April 13 each year, yet the celebration varies from country to country. In China, the official celebration lasts for three days, April 13-15.
The 2019 Xishuangbanna Songkran Festival, also known as the carnival of entertainment and culture, will be held from April 12 to 17 in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture.This year’s Xishuangbanna Songkran Festival will have five major celebrations, and four entertainment gatherings. Visitors will get the chance to release Kongming lanterns and have fun during water splashing.
