By Air

Haikou Meilan International Airport(海口美兰国际机场)
In the summer and autumn of 2018, Haikou Meilan international airport had air routes to 105 cities at home and abroad, covering all provincial capitals and major cities in China. A total of 40 airlines operated 169 routes at Haikou Meilan international airport. Haikou Meilan airport has convenient transportation. There is a fast track under the terminal to Meilan high-speed railway station. Passengers arriving at Meilan airport can buy train tickets to go to the downtown of Haikou or Sanya at the high-speed rail station.

Airport Transportation(Airport-Haikou Downtown)

• Bullet Train: You can take bullet train from Meilan high-speed rail station to Haikou east railway station or Haikou downtown. The ticket price 7 yuan one person, with a journey about 15 minutes. 
• Airport Bus: The departure time is from 05:30 to the end of the last flight in the evening. The airport bus from Meilan airport to Haikou downtown is about 26 kilometers away, 35 minutes driving, 20 yuan one person; Airport bus from Haikou civil aviation hotel(No. 9 Haixiu Road) to Meilan airport runs every 30 minutes from 05:30-21:00.
• City Bus: In the Haikou downtown, No.21 bus and No.41 bus can take you to Meilan airport. 
• Taxi: A taxi from downtown to the airport usually costs about 60 yuan.

By Train

The two main railways that pass through Haikou are the Yuehai Railway and the Hainan Roundabout Railway. And Haikou has three main railway stations, Meilan railway station, Haikou railway station and Haikou east railway station.

Meilan Railway Station(美兰高铁站)
Meilan railway station is a passenger train station of Hainan east ring railway, located in Meilan district of Haikou city, Hainan province. Meilan airport station is 14 kilometers away from Haikou east railway station in the north and more than 50 kilometers away from Wenchang railway station in the south. It is only 320.7 meters away from Haikou Meilan airport. The total project cost is 388 million yuan.

Haikou Railway Station(海口站)
Haikou railway station is located in the west coast of Haikou. It is the first cross-sea railway station in China, known as the first ecological railway station in China, and also the largest railway station in the square area. Haikou railway station has opened trains to Guangzhou, Beijing, Harbin and Xi'an.

By Long-distance Bus

Hainan's highway traffic is very convenient, highways include national highway 223, national highway 224, national highway 225, as well as roundabout expressway.

1. Haikou West Bus Station(海口客运西站)
Haikou west bus station is the largest long-distance bus station in Haikou city's transportation system, with more than 600 daily departures and more than 8,000 passengers per day. Haikou west bus station has 54 regular lines to 12 provinces and cities, including Hong Kong, Chongqing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Hunan and Hubei.

2. Haikou East Bus Station(海口汽车东站)
Haikou east bus station is mainly responsible for the road transportation of 11 cities and counties in Hainan province, mainly opening bus lines to Sanya, Wanning, Qionghai, Lingshui and Xinglong.

By Ship

Haikou has two ports, namely Haikou Xingang Port and Haikou Xiuying Port. Every day, there are passenger ships from Haikou to mainland coastal ports, Hong Kong and other regions. 

Haikou Xingang is an earlier fishing and commercial port in the history of Hainan island, but in 2011 it moved all passenger routes to Haikou port(Xiuying port). Passengers who want to experience the Qiongzhou strait can choose to go to Haikou by ship. Haikou Xiuying port is a transportation hub and passenger and cargo distribution center in Hainan province, it is also an important channel of passengers in and out of Hainan province. It has opened the ship routes of Haikou-Haian, Haikou-Beihai, Haikou-Zhanjiang, Haikou-Shenzhen, Haikou-Guangzhou. 

How to Get Around Haikou

City Bus

Haikou currently has about 64 bus routes, the fare in the urban area is mostly 1 yuan, part of it is 2 yuan; The bus fare that goes to airport and railway station is higher, executing sectional collect fees, it is usually 4-6 yuan, and tickets are sold by special staff. Haikou buses are all air-conditioned buses, a number of bus lines have been replaced by hybrid bus and pure electric bus.

There are special line buses between the main tourist attractions in Haikou. Haikou tourism bus line "New Meilan", can be direct to Qiongtai academy, temple of the five lords, former residence of Hai Rui, Wanlu park, Xiuying ancient fort barbette, Hai Rui park and other attractions in the city, the fare of 5 yuan. In the future, it will be extended to Lingshan temple, mangrove forest, volcanoes national geopark, tropical wildlife and botanical garden and other surrounding scenic areas.

Taxi

Taxis in Haikou mainly include Mazda, Jetta and other models. The starting price of taxis in Haikou is 10 yuan/3 kilometers, and 2 yuan per kilometer after exceeding 3 kilometers. No fuel surcharge is required.

Mingzhu Square-Railway Station: 55-65 yuan, about 30 minutes. 
Fucheng-Railway Station: 80-90 yuan, about 40 minutes. 
Haidian Island-Railway Station: 60-70 yuan, about 35 minutes. 

Tourist Line

Haikou city has opened 6 special tourist routes linking wildlife parks, volcanoes geopark, Baishamen park, Wanlu park and other scenic spots, with ticket prices ranging from 14 to 17 yuan.

Car Rental

There are many car rental companies in Hainan, some large car rental companies also set up branches in Haikou and Sanya. People who rent cars can return them at the same company in different places, the general price varies from 120 to 600 yuan/day according to the model. You can choose different car rental companies according to personal preferences.
