How to Get to Mount Siguniang

By Air

There is no airport in Mount Siguniang. The nearest airport to Siguniang Mountain is Chengdu Shuangliu Airport. After arriving at the airport, you can take the airport bus to Minshan Hotel and transfer bus No.82 to Chadianzi Passenger Station, and then take the bus to Siguniang Mountain. Or take a taxi directly from the airport to the passenger station.

By Train

According to Chengdu Municipal Transportation Bureau, the poverty alleviation project for Dujiangyan-Siguniangshan mountain rail transportation has been officially approved by Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission. This means that tourists can take the train to Siguniang Mountain in the future.

According to the official reply, the project starts at Dujiangyan Station of Chengguan High-speed Railway and ends at Siguniangshan Town, Xiaojin County, Aba via Hongkou, Longchi, Yingxiu, Gengda and Wolong.

There are 12 new stations along the line, including Dujiangyan(都江堰), Yongfeng(永丰), Leyuan(乐园), Hongkou(虹口), Longchi(龙池), Yingxiu(映秀), Gengda(耿达), Wolong(卧龙), Yingxue(映雪), Dengshenggou(邓生沟), Balang Mountain(巴朗山) and Siguniang Mountain stations. Then, scenic spots such as Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain, Yingxiu Ancient Town, Wolong Nature Reserve and Siguniang Mountain will be connected along the way.

By Long-distance Bus

Chengdu is the transfer center getting to Mount Siguniang. At present, there is no direct bus to Siguniang Mountain in Chengdu. Tourists can only take the bus to Xiaojin County at Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station and get off at Siguniang Town where Mount Siguniang located. There are three buses to Xiaojin County at 7:30, 09:00 and 12:00 every day, with a journey of about 5 hours and a fare of about 70 yuan.

By Chengdu Scenic Spots Express

At IFS/Chunxi road of Chengdu, tourists can take the express to Mount Siguniang. The journey takes about 5 hours at the cost of 136 yuan for one-way trip and 272 for a round trip. You can book the ticket on WeChat Official Accounts of Express(成都景区直通车).

By Self-driving

There are four routes from Chengdu to Siguniangshan by self-driving. 

Balang Mountain Line

Chengdu-Chengguan Expressway-Duwen Expressway-Yingxiu-Wolong Nature Reserve-Balang Mountain-Siguniangshan Town. The whole journey is about 220 kilometers and takes 5.5 hours by car. The road from Yingxiu to Wolong is poor and there are occasional thick fog in Mount Balang, please drive carefully. The road conditions are complicated and there are many dangerous sections along the road, it is not recommended to pass at night or in severe weather. Traffic control during the National Day is strict, and local vehicles with fewer than nine seats are restricted.

Jiajin Mountains Line

Chengdu-Chengya Expressway-318 National Highway-Lushan-Baoxing-Dongla Mountain Grand Canyon-Fengtongzhai-Jiajin Mountains-Siguniang Mountain. This road is the route of long-distance from Chengdu to Xiaojin, which is 370 kilometers long and takes about 4-5 hours by car. The overall road condition is good and picturesque. It also passes through Lushan Mountain, the epicenter of the earthquake. However, the road condition is much better than Yingxiu to Wolong. The biggest challenge of this section-turning over the snowy Jiajin Mountains, several kilometers down from the top of the mountain in Jiajin Mountains. On the whole, this line is recommended.

Danba Line

Chengdu-Chengya Expressway-Luding-Danba-Xiaojin-Siguniang Mountain. The whole journey is 680 kilometers. The route is also picturesque and beautiful. The distance is relatively far away, and it takes a long time. 

Barkan Line

Chengdu-Chengguan Expressway-Duwen Expressway-Lixian-Barkan-Xiaojin-Siguniang Mountain. The whole journey is about 520 kilometers, and the whole journey is smooth. You'll need to pass over snow-capped mountains over 4000 meters above sea level. It is far away, but the road conditions are good. Autumn is like a forest full of colors and red leaves, suitable for people with plenty of time.

By Car-rental

It is undoubtedly the most convenient way to get to Siguniang Mountain by car from Chengdu. The route is Chengdu-Yingxiu-Wolong-Balang Mountain-Siguniang Mountain. How to Get Around Mount Siguniang

By Sightseeing Bus

In order to protect the environment of the valleys, there are currently only tourist sightseeing bus in Shuangqiaogou valley and Changpinggou valley. Shuangqiaogou needs to be visited by sightseeing bus all the way from the tourist reception center to the terminal Changheba(长河坝); Sightseeing bus in Changping valley is from the tourist reception center to the Lama Temple (about 7 kilometers). This kind of sightseeing bus uses natural gas as fuel and is almost pollution-free. For tourists who do not have hiking ideas or experience, it is recommended to take a tour in sightseeing bus.

By Hiking

If you want to enjoy the beautiful and magnificent natural scenery of Siguniang Mountain, traveling by foot is the best way. However, it is necessary to have sufficient time and corresponding equipment.

There are three valleys in Siguniang Mountain: Shuangqiaogou valley, Changpinggou valley and Haizigou valley. Tourists can visit Shuangqiaogou valley by sightseeing bus; the front section of Changpinggou valley by sightseeing bus and the back section by walking; and the whole section of Haizigou valley by walking. If you carry a load on foot for the first time, it is recommended to choose the Changping valley with the most beautiful scenery and the most mature and safe route.

By Horse-riding

In changping valley and Haizigou valley of Siguniang Mountain, you can personally experience the pleasure of riding a horse. Of course, if you have no experience in riding a horse, it is better to have the groom help to lead the horse. Haizigou Horse Service Company Tel: 0837-2791575.

From Siguniang town, you can ride a horse about 20 kilometers north of Changping valley to reach the foot of Siguniang Mountain. If you want to climb the east slope of Dafeng, Erfeng and Sanfeng, you can start from the northeast of Haizigou valley. If you want to climb the east slope of Yaomei mountain, you need to cross or bypass the steep ridge.

Changping Valley

  • Lama Monastery-Kushutan: It takes about 2 hours by horse-riding;
  • Kushutan-Dragon Cave: It takes about 0.5 hours;
  • Longdong-Hippophae rhamnoides forest: takes about 30 minutes;
  • Hippophae rhamnoides forest-Ganhaizi: It takes about 1 hour;
  • Ganhaizi-Lianghekou: takes about 1 hour;
  • Lianghekou-wooden mule: it takes about 1 hour;
  • Wooden mule-willow dam: takes about 1 hour;
  • Willow dam-cockscomb stone: takes about 1 hour;
  • Cockscomb Stone-Shibao Shed: takes about 1 hour;
  • Shibao Shed-Thunder Drum Stone: takes about 1 hour;
  • Thunder drum stone-Kazi Valley: it takes about 1.5 hours.

Horse riding expenses: buying tickets at the Lama monastery and there are three stops along the way: Lama temple-Erdaoping: 50 yuan; The Lama Temple-Xia ganhaizi: 100 yuan; The Lama Temple-Lianghekou: 150 yuan.

If you want to continue to ride forward, you can bargain with the groom, generally increasing by 50-100 yuan.

Haizigou Valley

Tour can only be done on foot or on horseback in Haizigou valley, because the distance is too long, which usually takes one day. Staying overnight in Haizigou is a good choice, but it needs walking. The prices of the following sections are for reference only:

  • From entrance to Guozhuang Ping(锅庄坪) or Chaoshan Ping(朝山坪): 50 yuan/person (including one groom, who can also serve as a guide);
  • From entrance to Laoniu Yard(老牛院子): 100 yuan/person (including one groom, who can also be a guide);
  • From entrance to Dahaizi(大海子) or Huahaizi(花海子): 150 yuan/person (including one groom, who can also be a guide).
