Starting construction in July 2006, the Xianning Economic Development Zone is a provincial level development zone directly under the Xianning Municipal Communist Party Committee and Government. In July 2008, the zone was approved by the provincial government to be a high-tech Industry industrial park. In February 2015, it changed its named into Xianning High-Tech Industrial Zone, Hubei.

The control area of the development zone is 100 square kilometers and its planning area is 42 square kilometers. There are 123 projects which have settled in the park, among which 68 projects have already been completed and 40 projects are still under construction. Famous enterprises like Red Bull, ORG Packaging Co., Ltd., CSG Holding Co., Ltd., Taiwan Lite-On Technology Corporation, Taiwan Uni-President Enterprises Corporation, the United States Zimmer Corporate (Volcker), Jinmailang Co., Ltd., Yellow Crane Tower Distillery Co., LTD., Grace Group, Wewin Battery Technology Co., Ltd, Hubei Eguard Environmental Equipment Co., Ltd. and so on have settled in the development zone. Some special parks like the Guangdong Industrial Park (Xianning), Wuhan Affiliated Park, Taiwan Industrial Park, Pioneer Park and so on have started.

In the park, there are six kinds of industries, namely, industries concerned with food and beverage, textiles and clothing, machinery manufacturing, electronic information, medicine and health care, new materials, energy conservation and environment protection, which have an annual output value of more than RMB 5 billion yuan.

In 2011, Xianning Economic Development Zone closely follows the goal of accelerating the construction of national development zone proposed by the Municipal Communist Party Committee and Municipal Government, actively grasps the great provincial opportunities like the Two Areas and One Belt(the Greater Wuhan Metropolitan Area, the Western Hubei Ecological and Cultural Tourist Area, and the Yangtze River Economic Belt), Wuhan New Port and so on, persists in innovation, develops scientifically, transforms the economic growth mode, vigorously attracts investment, greatly promotes construction and development, provides good services, and makes a positive contribution to the building of a prosperous city in Southern Hubei.
