Jinghong Transportation

Here we provide you Transportation Guide in Jinghong Xishuangbanna. Passengers can take flights to get to Xishuangbanna Airport (Xishuangbanna Jinghong Airport), which is the second largest airport in Yunnan Province. National Highways No.213 and No.214 join in Jinghong, and 85% of the town roads here are paved with asphalt. Meanwhile, the international express highway from Kunming to Bangkok also passes the area. Express highway system is well-developed in the city that can reach Burma and Thailand.

The Lancang-Mekong River enjoying the fame as 'the Danube of the East' flows through the area. Jinghong Port is the first grade national port in China, from which passengers can get to Burma, Laos, Thailand and other places aside the Lancang-Mekong River. 

Besides, city-buses, bicycle, rickshaw and taxi bring a lot of convenient for tourists to go around the city.

How to Get to Jinghong?

By plane

Xishuangbanna Gasa Airport is the second largest airport in Yunnan, located just five kilometers from the downtown. Flights to Kunming, Shanghai, Chengdu and other major cities in China run regularly. There is one weekly international flight to Luang Prabang. Note that when booking a plane ticket to Jinghong, if it is not listed as "Jinghong" it may be listed as "Xishuangbanna".

There is no shuttle bus running between the airport and the city center. However, since the distance is not great, taxies in the airport may be a good choice. Moreover, about 500 meters (547 yards) to the right of the airport, there is City-bus No.1 could take you to the city center.

By train

Kunming-Mohan Railway, which will have an intermediate stop in Jinghong, will be completed in 2020. By then, visitors will be able to enjoy the sights along the railway by train. 

By bus

The city has the largest public transportation center in Xishuangbanna and connects travelers to nearby cities, towns and villages. The speedway from Jinghong to Menghai, Mengla, and Kunming.

There are over a dozen sleeper buses from Kunming daily, from around 9am to 10pm. The bus takes around 8 hours, and will travel over some bumpy dirt roads. Note that it may be a "sleeper bus" (lying down) even during the day.

This is the first big city for travelers coming from Laos, but most travelers will have to change buses in Mengla to get here. A direct bus from the border town of Mohan takes 3 hours.

By Ship

Made up of Jinghong, Ganlanba and Guanlei wharfs, Jinghong Port is the first grade national port in China. The Lancang-Mekong River international waterway has become a main artery to link China with Southeast Asia and even South Asia. Currently, Jinghong-Chiang Saen, Burma, and Jinghong-Vientiane, Laos, international waterways has been opened. Visitor can take Bus No.2 to the port directly for CNY2 per person.

How to Get around in Jinghong?

The few limited interesting parts of town are definitely walkable.

Jinghong has plenty of tuk-tuks or auto-ricksaws about. Hire these as a slightly cheaper way to get between places, but more than a kilometer or two and your butt might be sore all day.

Taxis run about ¥5-15 to places in town.

There are a total of three buses in the city. Visitors can take them to all of the secenic spots in the city.

Down by the Nancang it may be possible to hire a boat for a bit of river cruising.
