Where is South China Karst?

The South China Karst, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 2007, spans the provinces of Chongqing, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan. It is noted for its karst features and landscapes as well as rich biodiversity. With the total area is 97,125 hectares, the World Heritage Property of South China Karst is a serial property that includes seven karst clusters in four Provinces: Shilin Karst, Libo Karst, Wulong Karst, Guilin Karst, Shibing Karst, Jinfoshan Karst, and Huanjiang Karst.

Main Attractions of South China Karst

  • The Libo Zhangjiang Scenic Area boasts boundless mountains, crystal creeks, cascading waterfalls, various plants and animals. Its Mandarin Duck Lake is the only aquatic forest in Karst landscape at that latitude in the world, where grow over 10 kinds of precious trees. The Maolan Karst Forest Natural Conservation is a splendid karst ecosystem featuring much biodiversity. Guizhou Maolan National Nature Reserve is located in the southeast of Libo County; it is consist of three parts of southeastern city of karsts forest, Jialiang town Dongting five hieroglyphics points and seven small heart of karsts forest science.
  • The Stone Forest is located in  Shilin Yi Nationality Autonomous County, 120 kilometers and 3 hours’ drive from Kunming. It is also the world’s only karst landscape in the subtropical plateau area, and enjoys the fame of ‘the First Wonder of the World’. It features numerous odd-shaped stone formations, and known as the Stone Forest.
  • Huanjiang Karst is situated in the northwest of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Huangjiang site extends from a high plateau to a lower hilly area. The scene from a bird’s-eye view is especially splendid. The site has unique scientific and aesthetic value.
  • Shibing Karst is located in Shibing County, in easern Guizhou Province, it is the most well-known and mature dolomite karst site in world’s tropic and subtropical zone.
  • Jinfoshan Karst is located in Chongqing municipality, Jinfoshan landscape is famous for five marvelous wonders. The tableland is noted for its enclosing edge; giant caves lie under the ground indicating the hydrogeology of Jinfoshan area.
  • Guilin Karst covers an area of 98 square miles, covers two sections, the Li River section and the Putao section. On the both sides of the Lijiang River, many stone columns are lined up in a seemingly orderly formation and covered with verdant bush.
  • Wulong Karst is composed of three scenic areas: Furong Cave, Three Natural Bridges and Houping Tiankeng. It is characterized by its special cave system, grand natural stone arch bridges and the eroded tiankeng and deep fissures.

Stone Forest

1.From Kunming Airport: The Special Bus Line to Stone Forest leaves.
2.From Kunming South Railway Station: Take a bullet train to Shilin West first. After arrival, you can take Bus 99 to the scenic area directly.

Zhangjiang Scenic Area

You can take a train and get off at Mawei Station. Then take bus to the West Gate of Xiaoqikong.

Libo Zhangjiang Scenic Area

You can take a bus of ‘Guiyang to Libo’ in Guiyang Passenger Station on the morning of weekends . After reaching Libo, you should take the coach to Maolan and get off at its destination.

Wulong Karst National Geology Park

1.Take a bus from Sigongli Transportation Hub or Longtousi Bus Station to Xiannü Town Tourist Center.
2.Take a bus from West Nanchuan Bus Station, West Daxuecheng Bus Station, or Yubei Shuangfengqiao Bus Station to Wulong Bus Station. Upon arrival, take a taxi to Xiannü Town Tourist Center.
