It is located in Mengma Town (勐马镇) and serves as the endpoint of National Highway G227 (G227国道). In 1991, it was approved by the Yunnan Provincial Government (云南省政府) as a secondary border port (二类口岸). After years of development, the port has become an important passage for border trade.

Since the opening up of China, the port has played an important role in border trade and personnel exchanges, with growing passenger and cargo flow.

Since the reopening of passenger traffic on April 28, 2023, until February 12, 2025, the Menglian Border Port (勐啊口岸) has seen a total of over 2 million passengers. From January to February 2025, the port recorded a passenger flow of 308,700, a year-on-year increase of 82.47%. In the first quarter of 2025, the passenger flow reached 478,333, with an average of approximately 5,000 people per day. On January 24, 2025, the port recorded a single-day passenger flow of 6,912, setting a new historical high.

From January 1 to July 13, 2025, the Menglian Border Inspection Station (勐康边检站) – Menglian Branch (勐啊分站) processed over 1 million passengers.

To improve efficiency, Mengkang Border Inspection Station (勐康边检站) – Menglian Branch (勐啊分站) has adopted measures such as dynamically adjusting staffing, opening additional inspection channels in advance, and implementing a 30-minute guarantee for Chinese citizens. The port has established a "green channel" for urgent medical services, benefiting 46 patients by May 2025. For cross-border students, the port offers a "sunshine channel," ensuring fast passage for up to 2,800 students per day.
