Why is Luodai Ancient Town So Special?

There are more than 20,000 Hakka people settled in Luodai Ancient Town, making up nearly 90% of the local population. The Hakka refers to a kind of Han ethnic group, which is a large part of many south China cities. The town has a history of 1,800 years. It was built by Emperor Liuchan during the Three Kingdoms Period. The Hakka residency and old street, which have thousands of years of history, are well preserved. Luodai ancient town is located in Luodai Town, Longquanyi district of Chengdu, only 18 km from downtown Chengdu, 10 kilometers north of Longquan Town. The town lies about 30 km from Chengdu Railway Station, and about 45 km from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

Hakka Museum

Hakka Museum

Located in Huguang Hall is the Hakka Museum which is a comprehensive Hakka Museum in China. The museum gives its visitors a glimpse of the Hakka migration to the province as well as their achievements. There are also various cultural displays in the museum like potteries, irons, bronzes, carving stones, coins, and other hand-made arts and crafts.

Fire-dragon Festival and Water-dragon Festival

Liu Family Dragon is the most prestigious of the Hakka dragon dance groups in Luodai. The actors are all from the Liu family whose ancestral home is in Jiangxi. They perform both the fire dragon dance and the water dragon dance at different times for different purposes. During the Lantern Festival, the fire dragon is played to pray for blessings. Water-dragon Festival is the most momentous festival for Hakka. It is said that Luodai enjoys a favorable whether because Hakka has an intimate relationship with the Dragon King who is in charge of rainfall. In order to show their thanks to Dragon King, they perform Dragon Dance in the summer.

Jinlong Great Wall

Jinlong Great Wall is the longest simulated Great Wall in China. It is 1680 meter in length, 4 meter in height and 3 meter in width with 5 beacon towers. At the entrance stands a memorial archway inscribed with many lifelike dragons. A horizon board hanging over the archway is inscribed with four Chinse Characters “Jin Long Great Wall” in masterful calligraphy.

  2. Best time to go – All seasons. You can watch exciting fire dragon dance after Chinse New Year Festival and water dragon dance in summer.
