Yuanyang Culture

Indigenous ethnic groups have created their own traditional ethnic cultures in Yuanyang, and have formed distinctive cultural relics, historical relics, residential architectures, costumes, diet and instruments, etc. Yuanyang is a county in which Hani people are more than 50% of total population. Hani culture includes ecological culture marked by forest, farming culture marked by rice terrace, catering culture featured by long street banquet, architectural culture marked by mushroom house, dress culture dominated by costume embroidery, festival culture symbolized by "Kuzhazha" festival and so on.

1. Ethnic Groups

There are seven indigenous ethnic groups in Yuanyang county, including Hani, Yi, Han, Dai, Miao, Yao and Zhuang. Among them, Han people account for 11.38%, minority people take up 88.62% of total population and Hani people are 53.92% of the total population.

3. Ethnic Festivals

The ethnic costumes include sun-moon waistband costume(日月系腰服), pleated skirt of Miao, horsetail hat of Yao, waistband belt of Zhuang and flower waist costume of Dai; Ethnic festavals include Angmatu Festival, Kaiyangmen Festival(开秧门) and Kuzhazha Festival of Hani, Torch Festival of Yi, Huashan Festival(花山节) of Miao, Panwang Festival of Yao, Water Splashing Festival of Dai and Double Third Day(三月三) and so on.
