Ordos Transportation

As a major tourism city with its unique geographic location in Inner Mongolia, Ordos is provided with convenient transportation in ways of air, train, and road. It is equipped with one airport, 5 major railway stations and sound bus transportation network. By the end of 2018, Ordos Airport had a total of 50 airlines in operation for the whole year, with 56 cities as its destinations. The length of railways in operation reached 2,308.7 kilometers. The total mileage of highways in the city is 24,037 kilometers, of which 1264 kilometers are expressways, with the density of road network reaching 27.6 kilometers / 100 square kilometers.

By Air

Ordos Ejin Horo Airport 

Ordos Ejin Horo Airport  is an airport serving Ordos City, which is located in the Ejin Horo Banner of the city, about 45 kilometers away from Dongsheng district and 18 kilometers from Kangbashi district. Up to 2018, 50 airlines had been opened to link major cities in  Inner Mongolia such as Hohhot, Tongliao, Ulanhot; domestic cities out of Inner Mongolia, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Shenzhen,  Sanya, Zhengzhou, Chengdu, etc. and regular international flights to Irkutsk (Russia), Siem Reap (Cambodia) and Bangkok (Thailand).

Airport Transportation

1. Airport shuttle bus

Urban area to airport: South Dongsheng Bus Station - Kangbashi Wedding Park East Gate - Ejin Horo Banner Guotai Business Square CBD - Ejin Horo Vocational High School - Airport. First departure time: 5:30 a.m., second at 6:00 a.m. and it runs every 45 minutes at other times,  with the last bus departs at 8:15 p.m.

Airport to downtown: Airport - Ejin Horo Vocational High School - Ejin Horo Banner Guotai Business Square CB - Kangbashi Wedding Park East Gate - South Dongsheng Bus Station. First departure time: 8:00 a.m. and then it runs every one hour at other times, with the last bus departs at 11:30 p.m.

2. Taxi cab

It is costly to take taxi at en expense about 40 to 100 yuan, so we highly recommend you taking the shuttle bus.

By Train

There are five railway stations in Ordos, which are Ordos Railway Station, West Dongsheng Railway Station, East Dongsheng Railway Station,  Jungar Railway Station and West Dalate Railway Station. Ordos has a total of 1,667 kilometers of railway lines, with a total annual cargo capacity of 350 million tons. There are two passenger trains going to Beijing from Ordos every day, with single daily passenger trains going to Shanghai, Xi’an, Nanjing, Wuxi, Xuzhou, Chongqing, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Jinan, Yulin, and Yan’an.

Main Railway Stations in Ordos

1.  Ordos Railway Station 鄂尔多斯站

Transportaion Tips: Tourists can take No.K27, No.3 and No. 6 buses to get to Ordos Railway Station
Destination: It is the largest railway station in Ordos operating three main lines reaching 10 cities like Beijing, Xi'an, Yantai, Hnagzhou, Kunming, Chengdu, Qiqihar, Fuzhou and cities in Inner Mongolia like Baotou, Hohhot and etc. Tourists can get to major cities out of Innmer Mongolia and hot destination in Inner Mongolia by taking trains departing from this station.

2. East Dongsheng Railway Station 东胜东站

Transportaion Tips: Tourists can take No. 33 bus to get to East Dongsheng Railway Station
Destination:  Hohhot, Baotou, Shengmu and other cities, and you could buy train tickets from Baotou to Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, etc.

3. West Dongsheng Railway Station 东胜西站

Address:  Hantai Town, Dongsheng District, Ordos  鄂尔多斯市东胜区罕台镇

Transportaion Tips: Tourists can take No. K23, k24, k25, 50 and 51 buses to get to West Dongsheng Railway Station
Destination:  Passengers can buy tickets to Fuzhou, Shanghai, Kunming, Chongqing, Xi'an, Chengdu and Beijing, as well as destinations in Inner Mongolia such as Qiqihar, Hohhot and Baotou.

4.  Jungar Railway Station   准格尔站

Address:   Dalu Town, Jungar Banner, Ordos City  鄂尔多斯市准格尔旗大路镇

Transportaion Tips: There are two shuttle bus operated for the station: one to Xuejiawan Town (薛家湾镇) and another to Dalu New District (大路新区).
Destination:  It offers trains to Ulanqab and Hohhot, you can get out of Inner Mongolia from Hohhot Station.

5. West Dalate Railway Station  达拉特西站

Destination:  Trains to Baotou stop at this station.

Long-distance Bus

Ordos’s highway is very developed. National Roads 109 and 210 intersects here, connecting with provincial roads, county roads, which consist of the highway traffic network. Ordos now has regular buses to Hohhot, Shijiazhuang, Yan'an, Shengmu, Baotou and other destinations.
There are two bus stations in Dongsheng District. The bus station nearing Government Street has long-distance buses to other cities and each banners.

Destination: It has buses to most of the banners and towns in Ordos and also provides long-distance buses to cities in and out of Inmmer Mongolia such as Baotou, Hohhot, Shenmu, Tiayuan, Yulin, etc.

2. Dongsheng Passenger Terminal  鄂尔多斯东胜客运中心

Destination: Besides the major destinations in Inner Mongolia, buses to major cities of Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan and Jiangsu province are available, such as Xi'an, Datong, Zhumadian, Suqian, etc. as well as other cities like Beijing, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou, Shijiazhuang, etc. 

How to Get Around Ordos

1. Taxi

Taxi is a good choice to get round Ordos, convenient without too much cost. Ordos' taxies are mostly Poussin or Jetta, starting at 7 Yuan, 1.5 Yuan per kilomteter after 1 kilometer. As the city is relatively small, most destinations in the city just take about 10 Yuan to arrive.

2. City Bus

Ordos has 12 bus lines in the city. The No.1 and 4 buses pass by the railway station. The stations distribute everywhere in the city, very convenient.The ticket prices ranging from 1 to 3 yuan. 

3. Rent Cars

Tourists can also rent a car to get round Ordos, more convenient and flexible for your itinerary and better appreciating the grassland view, the price is about 500-600 yuan/day according to the vehicle type, furthermore, it is highly suggested to hire an experienced local guide for your tour.
