Where is Xiaoqikong Scenic Area
Xiaoqikong Scenic Area is a vital part of Libo Zhangjiang Scenic Area, located in the southwest of Libo county, Qiannan Bouyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou province. It is 28 kilometers away from the county seat, and 36 kilometers from the Mawei Railway Station. The Scenic Area is amid a narrow and long valley with a width of only 1-1.5 km and a length of 12 km.
Main Attractions in Xiaqikong
Most of the scenic spots in the Scenic Area have been open to visitors, including the Bronze Drum Bridge, Small Seven-hole Ancient Bridge, Laya Waterfall, 68-level Hydraulic Drop Waterfall, Guibei Mountain Forest on Rocks, Water Forest, Yuanyang Lake, Heavenly Bell Cave, etc.
Bronze Drum Bridge(铜鼓桥)
The Bronze Drum Bridge striding over the Zhangjiang River is the first view we see when we enter into from the east gate. It was first built in 1993 and rebuilt in 2001 because the great flood of Libo destroyed the original bridge in 2000. The bridge has a length of 126 meters, a clear span of 60 meters, a width of 2.4 meters and a height of 25 meters. The two ends of the bridge adopt the design of bronze drums of the Yao ethnic minority, so it is called “Bronze Drum Bridge”.
Small Seven-hole Ancient Bridge(小七孔古桥)
The Small Seven-hole Ancient Bridge is situated in the northern end of the scenic area. It is a small and exquisite seven-hole stone bridge, which has a length of 40 meters, a width of 2.2 meters and a height of 5.5 meters. Built in 1836, the 15th year of the Daoguang Reign in the Qing Dynasty, it is a typical Chinese arch-shape structure. In ancient times, it was an important pass way connecting Libo to Guangxi.
Laya Waterfall(拉雅瀑布)
The Laya Waterfall originates from the cave springs in the upper reaches of the Xiangshui River and pours down along the steep cliff ―Laya. It is a word of the Bouyei language, meaning ―beautiful girl. The waterfall is 10 meters wide with a fall of 30 meters. When you get close to it, you see the blue sky dotted with white clouds over the waterfall. it is even like the galaxy dropping from the sky. In the high season, the waterfall is roaring and pouring down, which is really forceful and magnificent. It gushes and plunges down, forming a wonderful vertical crossing waterfall group view with the 68-level Waterfall of the Xiangshui River.
68-level Hydraulic Drop Waterfall(68级跌水瀑布)
The 68-level Waterfall is concentrated in the 3-km-long narrow valley on the upstream of the Hanbi Pool, with a fall reaching 40m. More rarely, this river section actually naturally forms 68 levels of well-spaced waterfalls in different scales. Such abundant and concentrated waterfalls are particularly rare all over the country.
Guibei Mountain Forest on Rocks(龟背山石上森林)
Guibei Mountain is located on the south side of Xiangshui River. It boasts a world-class typical karst forest with a profusion of Monstera deliciosa on the mountain, so it was named as Guibei Mountain. Besides, as it features particularly rich biodiversity, Guibei Mountain has been called “biological resources gene pool”.
Water Forest(水上森林)
The Water Forest is located in the Xiangshui River bed of karst depression, with a total length of 2,000 meters, covering such scenic spots as Overwater Forest Jungle, Lajin Wetland, Bamboo Shoal, etc. It got the name as ―trees grow over water and water flows on rocks. The plants on the river bed are rooted in the rock gaps and being washed by torrents all the time. The unique ecological landscape is breathtaking. In ancient times, the Yao people used to build ponds for drinking water in the middle section.
Yuanyang Lake(鸳鸯湖)
Yuanyang Lake is named for that there are two tall trees side by side in the lake. The two trees are half in the water, and the branches and leaves are held above. The female tree are delicate and beautiful, and the male tree which can be can be surrounded by two or three people, are majestic and upright. The lake is quiet, and waterways are extending in all direction. The lake is surrounded by a variety of colors of plants, densely and highly wrapped in several layers. It shows beautiful and warm in the sun with green trees, red and pink flowers.
In the Yuanyang lake, there are other services such as forest labyrinth and boating games, 30 yuan a person.
Heavenly Bell Cave(天钟洞)
Heavenly Bell Cave locates in Tangba Stone Forest half slope, and its hole is about 700 meters long. The cave hall is tall, and the profile is circuitous. Calcified deposits are not very developed, but the shape is lifelike and vivid, and the road in the cave is flat and observable. The shape of stalactites in the cave are more like animals such as crocodile, golden chicken and rhinoceros and so on. In the cave, there is a stalactite like a bronze bell upside down on the ground, and the bell body is covered with fine stone milk like tadpole script. It is said that this is the “legal provision” of the animal community, so the bell is called “Tianzhong”, and the cave name is derived from it.
How to Get There
Xiaoqikong scenic area is 28 kilometers away from the county seat, and 36 kilometers from the Mawei Railway Station. Travelers can take the travel special train from Guiyang to Mawei at Guiyang railway station about 3-4 hours, then get off at the Mawei Station. After that, you can take a coach to Xiaoqikong scenic area about 1.5 hours. This is the fastest and most convenient way.
Another way to get to Xiaoqikong scenic area is taking a public coach from Guiyang to Duyun or Dushan, and then transfer the bus to Libo. Finally, you can take the private car to Xiaoqikong about 30 minutes.
