Wengtai Shui Ethnic Town in Dushan County, Qiannan

Wengtai Shui Ethnic Township黔南布依族苗族自治州独山县翁台水族乡, formerly part of Dushan County in Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, was located in the northeastern part of Dushan County. It was bordered by Dahe Town of Sandu Shui Autonomous County to the east, Tuchang Town and Jiadong Shui Ethnic Township to the west and south, and Fenghe Shui Ethnic Township of Duyun City to the north. The township’s administrative center was 45 kilometers from the county seat, and the total area was 45 square kilometers. As of the end of 2011, the township had a population of 3,100.

In 1984, Wengtai Commune was upgraded to township status. On June 28, 2013, Wengtai Shui Ethnic Township, along with Tuchang Town and Jiadong Shui Ethnic Township, was dissolved and merged into Yingshan Town. The new administrative area of Yingshan Town included the former regions of Tuchang Town, Jiadong Shui Ethnic Township, and Wengtai Shui Ethnic Township.

The population mainly consisted of Shui, Han, and Miao ethnic groups, with minorities making up over 90% of the total population. The birth rate was 6.23‰, the death rate was 9.5‰, and the natural population growth rate was -3.27‰. The population density was 69 people per square kilometer.

Transportation

As of the end of 2011, the township government seat was accessible by an asphalt road with 2 daily bus departures, each bus seating 32 passengers. Villages and most natural settlements were connected by simple roads, with some village roads paved.
