Kuyangshu Ski Jumping Field in Zhangjiakou

During the 128th IOC session at Kuala Lumpur on July 31, 2015 the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in 2022 were awarded to Beijing. For the very first time a city is thus becoming host of both Summer and Winter Olympic Games (in 2008 and 2022 respectively). The master plan of the organizing committee is to stage the snow sports competitions in the region of Zhanjiakou city, which is located in Heibei province around 180 km north-east of Beijing.

With an altitude of more than 1500 meters Zhangjiakou is already now a winter sports destination with a number of ski ressorts. Nevertheless, for the Winter Games almost all sports venues will have to be built up from scratch. Thus also a Nordic Winter Sports Centre will be constructed near Kuyangshu village, including the ski jumping facility. The costs of the Olympic ski jumping hills only is estimated at more than 60 million US dollars. Construction phase of the ski jumping venue is scheduled from 2017 to 2019. After the Games they shall serve as a national training centre.
