2. Location
Situated at the southwestern end of the (transversely faulted) Hengduan Mountains, Tengchong topographically assumes the form of a horseshoe with the opening facing the south. The eastern most sources of the Irrawaddy issue from the high mountains in the is the summit of Mount Danaozi of Gaoligong Mountain, 3,780.2 m (12,402 ft) above sea level and the lowest point, 930 m (3,050 ft) above sea level, is in the Suqingjiang valley. The elevation of the city seat is 1,640 m (5,380 ft).

Tengchong city administers 11 towns(Tengyue Town(腾越镇), Jietou Town(界头镇), Qushi Town(曲石镇), Mingguang Town(明光镇), Gudong Town(固东镇), Diantan Town(滇滩镇), Heshun Town(和顺镇), Zhonghe Town(中和镇), Houqiao Town(猴桥镇), Hehua Town(荷花镇), Mangbang Town(芒棒镇)) and 7 townships(Wuhe Township(五合乡), Beihai Township(北海乡), Mazhan Township(马站乡), Puchuan Township(蒲川乡), Xinhua Township(新华乡), Tuantian Township(团田乡), Qingshui Township( 清水乡)). The most notable town under Tengchong's jurisdiction is Heshun, a historical town 4 km west from Tengchong's city centre.
4. Ethnic People
Tengchong is home to people from nearly half of China's 55 ethnic minority groups, around 46 thousand people who belong to ethnic minorities. Members of minority groups account for 7% of the total population of the city and scatter over 40% of its total living area.
5. Climate and Weather
As with much of the province, Tengchong experiences a mild subtropical highland climate. Spring begins early and remains relatively dry and sunny until May, when there is a dramatic uptick in frequency and amount of rainfall that lasts until late September. Summers are warm, rainy and generally overcast, with August, the warmest month, averaging 20.2 °C (68.4 °F). Autumn sees an abrupt reduction in rainfall and return to sunniness.
6. Best Time to Visit
Tengchong has a very pleasant weather with enjoy sunshine, mild climate and plentiful rainfall. It's possible to travel to Tongcheng all year round but the period from July to August with a lot of rains is not advised.

Tengchong is very interesting and worth a visit. It is a small and delicate county in Yunnan Province, and Tengchong attractions include Heshun Old Town, Volcano Park, Tengchong Hot Sea, Beihai Wetland, etc. Besides, various traditional villages in Tengchong are good places to explore the ethnic culture of Yunnan.
