    Qingdao (青岛), located on the southern end of the Shandong Peninsula along the Yellow Sea coast, has a temperate monsoon climate with distinct maritime characteristics. Thanks to its oceanic environment and southeast monsoon, Qingdao enjoys cool springs, wet summers, dry winters, and moderate temperatures throughout the year.

    The city receives about 2,500 hours of sunshine annually, making it brighter than many other Chinese cities. Average annual temperature is around 12.6°C (55°F). Summer is mild, with August, the hottest month, averaging around 25°C (77°F).

    Best time to visit Qingdao: March to November, with mid-August to early September being ideal if you want to experience the Qingdao International Beer Festival.

    Spring (March – May)

    Spring temperatures rise gradually. Early March is still chilly, averaging 8°C (46°F), while April–May warms up significantly.

    Recommended Attractions:

    • Mt. Laoshan (崂山): Birthplace of Taoism, famous for both mountainous and coastal scenery, cliffs, and unique rock formations. Ideal for sightseeing, holidays, recreation, and cultural exploration.

    • Zhongshan Park (中山公园): Cherry Blossom Festival in mid-April to early May showcases 10+ kinds of cherry flowers, peach blossoms, peonies, and azaleas.

    Summer (June – August)

    Summer in Qingdao is warm but not extremely hot. Average temperature is around 24°C (75°F), with August being the hottest at 25°C (77°F). Rainfall is frequent, so bring an umbrella.

    • No. 1 Bathing Beach (第一海水浴场): Soft sand, clean water, gentle waves, and scenic surroundings. Great for sunbathing, swimming, beach sports, or seaside dining.

    • Qingdao International Beer Festival (青岛国际啤酒节): Starts on the second Saturday of August for ~16 days. Enjoy local and international beers, performances, and festive atmosphere.
