Winter carnival to kick off in Inner Mongolia

Northern Inner Mongolia autonomous region will stage a series of events to tap its winter resources.

An international heath preservation winter festival will be held in Arxan on December 21, and winter Nadam fair will be staged in Hulunbuir on December 23 and last till March 2020.

At the same time, a photography-themed self-drive across the region will take off later this month. The idea is to upgrade local winter tourism products and enable visitors to experience winter sports and diverse folk customs, according to Wei Zhiguo, a senior official with the autonomous region’s culture and tourism department.

Inner Mongolia will host the 14th National Winter Games next year, and high-speed rail connecting the region’s Hohhot to Beijing will be up and running soon, cutting the time from nine hours to two.

Local authority is planning to take these opportunities to turn the autonomous region into an all-season destination.
