Basic Information

• Location: The protection zone is located in the Yan Youfang Township (闫油坊乡) of Kangbao County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. It is situated on the eco – tourism line of the Bashang Grassland (坝上草原), with a provincial – level asphalt road running through it. It serves as a central hub connecting various tourist spots in the Bashang Grassland area.
• Ecosystem: The zone boasts a rich variety of plants and animals. Since 2000, Yan Youfang Township has been a comprehensive demonstration area for returning farmland to forests and grasslands. Over 39,000 acres of land have been converted back to forests and grasslands, and 17,000 acres of suitable荒山荒滩 (wasteland) have been allocated for afforestation. The afforestation efforts have combined trees, shrubs, and grasses, following the principles of adapting to local conditions and creating tourist attractions. This has resulted in 20,000 acres of forests and 10,500 acres of grasslands, forming a considerable scale. The ecological vegetation has been well – recovered, attracting animals such as foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, and over 20 species of birds like white – lings and semi – wings to settle in the protection zone.

• Plant Resources: The protection zone is home to a wide variety of plant species, including cold – and drought – tolerant perennials. These plants form a unique natural landscape, providing a rich habitat for local wildlife.
• Animal Resources: The well – preserved ecological environment has attracted numerous animal species to return and settle. Foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, and various bird species have made the protection zone their home. This has significantly enhanced the biodiversity of the area.

• Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit is from late June to the end of September when the grasslands are lush and the weather is pleasant. During this period, the grasslands are filled with blooming flowers and vibrant life, offering visitors a memorable experience.
