Why is Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve So Special?

With an area comprising only 93 square kilometers, Tianzi (“Son of Heaven”) Mountain Nature Reserve is one of the four subsections of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. But it is carpeted here and there with thick forests and with the wildlife that characterizes Wulingyuan Scenic Area. It is said to combine the beauty of Guilin, the strangeness if not grotesqueness of Huangshan, the awesomeness of Mount Hua and the magnificence of Mount Tai.

Where is Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve?

Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station (to the northwest of Zhangjiajie Railway Station) has regular tourist buses to Tianzi Mountain and the bus journey takes about 80-90 minutes. Then take battery car inside the scenic area.

There are shuttle buses from Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station to Sinanyu Ticket Station at the cost of CNY15/person, but normally you have change to a motorcycle in Wulinyuan Town to get there at the cost of CNY3.

Main Attractions in Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve

Imperial Brush Peak

Imperial Brush Peak has inspired artists and photographers for a long time. It was once shown on over 30 magazines and newspapers. It is located in a valley on the west of Tianzi Pavilion (Heaven’s Son Pavilion). Looking from the vantage point on the northeast, ten rolling peaks soar up to the blue sky. The right peak looks like an inverted brush. And the peaks on the left looks like a finished picture. Legend has it that the stone brush is left by King Xiang.

Fairies Spreading Flowers

The Fairies Spreading Flowers is located in the diagonally opposite of The Imperial Brush Peak. There is a beautiful image of woman slim and graceful in the hazy mist, with flower basket in her arms, she smiles and put flowers on the earth.

Legend of Tianzi Mountain

Tianzi Mountain takes its name from a man, Xiang Dakun. He was the leader of the Tu ethnic group during the last years of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 -1279). Xiang Dakun led a revolution and named himself as Tianzi (Son of Heaven). Visiting this scenic area, visitors can see many sites about his story, the most impressive being: the Yu Bi Peaks, the Xi’an Nü San Hua, and the Shen Bing Ju Hui.
