Hong Kong Attractions by Regions

Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories are three major regions in Hong Kong, covering 18 districts. Here below we listed the mostly visited sites in each region for your reference.

Hong Kong Island

Located in the heart of the city, HK Island is the center of economy, politics, entertainment and shopping. It takes about two days for visitors to see the main attractions on the island, such as Hong Kong Park, Aberdeen Fishing Village and Lan Kwai Fong, ect. The northern part of the island is the main commercial, shopping and entertainment area, starting from the Central District to Causeway Bay; the eastern part from Tin Hau to Chai Wan is residential area; and the southern part of the island is the recreational area, where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the sea shore and bays.

Kowloon Peninsula

Kowloon Peninsula, which links HK Island to Chinese mainland, offers you another view of Hong Kong. It’s encircled by the Victoria Harbour on the east, south and west sides. Just like HK Island, Kowloon is an indispensable part to form the prosperous downtown area. It takes one full day to experience its highlight sights, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok. The Star Ferry can be both inexpensive and romantic. For a fan of photography, riding on the ferry provides the optimum angle from which to snap fantastic views of the harbor.

The New Territories and Outlying Islands

The New Territories offer much cultural and natural interest. Ancient walled villages (Sha Tau Kok, Sheung Shui, Fanling, Yuen Long), wetlands teeming with birds and aquatic life (Yuen Long), temples (Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, Fanling), a solid museum in Sha Tin. In the past, the New Territories was once fairly rural, undeveloped parts of the city, and there are still many areas where visitors can see villages that have remained unchanged for centuries. Notably, Sai Kung Peninsula has fabulous hiking trails, delicious seafood and attractive beaches. And, of course, there's the awe-inspiring Hong Kong Unesco Global Geopark.
