Beijing Tongrentang is a famous time-honored brand in the Chinese medicine industry. Founded in 1669 (the eighth year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty), it has been consecrated to the imperial medicine since 1723. After 188 years of eight generations of emperors, its products are famous at home and abroad for their “unique formula, excellent material selection, exquisite technology, and remarkable curative effect”.

In nowadays, it still concentrates on the high quality Chinese herbal medicines and has open stores in 15 countries and regions. Tong Ren Tang and Hu Qing Yu Chinese Pharmacy are the two most famous Chinese medicine pharmacies in China. The traditional Chinese medicine culture of Tong Ren Tang was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

Background Information of Tong Ren Tang

Tong Ren Tang (TRT; Chinese: 同仁堂) is a Chinese pharmaceutical company founded in 1669, which is now the largest producer of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The company is headquartered in Beijing and is engaged in both manufacture and retail sales, operating drug stores predominantly in Chinese-speaking regions. Tong Ren Tang is considered one of the “Big 4” traditional Chinese medicine brands still in existence. The four companies include Guangyuyuan (1541 AD), Guangzhou Chen Liji (1600 AD), Beijing Tong Ren Tang (1669), and Hangzhou Hu Qing Yu Tang (1874). Tong Ren Tang and GuangYuYuan have been officially recognized as “China Time-Honored Brands” by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
