Zheyang Mountain Scenic Spot

Zheyang Mountain is located in the Dacaotan township of Dingxi City in Gansu Province, which is one National Forest Park and National Grade AAAA tourism scenic spot as well as one of the main scenic spots of national rock-climbing base. Zheyang Mountain takes its name from the sunrise being shadowed by the mountains.

Three Sections of Zheyang Mountain Scenic Spot

Zheyang Mountain Scenic Area is 29 kms west of the county. Occupying an area of 36 kms, the scenic area consists of three sections including the West Brook (the primary zone), the East Brook and the Yimen Mountain. At the scenic spot, the steep cliff, deep gorge, ravine and waterfall can be seen everywhere and have formed particular landscape. 

Inscriptions

Each scenic site of the West River had many carved inscriptions by the famous people in Song and Ming Dynasties. Owing to their long-standing history and natural erosion, the inscriptions seems blurry. However, the “West River” and “Yunsou Cave” carved by Zhang Shunmin who was a celebrated poet of the Northern Song Dynasty were still visible. It had been one huge famous scenic spot in the Song Dynasty.

Karst Landscape

Zheyang Mountain is mainly featured by karst landscape, as well as the gorge, Danxia landform and karst landforms landscape in combination. The constructing relics and trace fossils are very rich and of particular features. The place is of great importance to research the Qingling Mountain, the Qilian Mountain, the Kunlun Mountains and some other mountain ranges, which are representative of the geological landforms, geologic events and the process of its formation.

Legend

Story has it that Zhang sanfeng who was one outstanding Taoist in Ming dynasty went wandering through Zheyang Mountain, involved in the practice of his religion, spreading the syncretism with Confucianism and Buddhism, and finally jumped into the Dragon Lake, or ascend and become an immortal in the Yusun Peak. The story of Zhangsanfeng taking flight to the land of the immortal on Zheyang Mountain could add a touch of sorcery to the scenery.

  • By Air
    The nearest airport is Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport which is 168 km from Dingxi.
  • By Train
    A train ride to Dingxi costs CNY9 to CNY19 and takes less than two hour from Lanzhou.
  • By Taxi
    The flag-down fare is CNY3, CNY 1 per kilometer after exceeding 2 kilometers.
  • Take Railway
    Dingxi is only 98 kilometers from the Lanzhou city and was crossed by the Longhai Railway and National Highway 310, 312, 212, 316 After the establishments of the 2nd line of Baolan Railway, Landing and Lanlin expressways, it was more like a gate of Lanzhou city.
  • By Bus
    The bus station is not far away from each other, both located inJiaotong Lu of Anding District.
  • Self-driving
    Start from Lanzhou and go along the national road No.121 to 208-209 kilometres of Yihu Bridge, then turn to southwest and keep going 13 kilometres.

  • Baling Bridge
    Weiyuan Baling Bridge, also known as lying bridge, located on the Qingyuan river outside the south entrance of Weiyuan County. It was built during the Hongwu period (AD 1368-1398) after the flood destroyed. In 1919 lying bridge was rebuilt in imitation of Lanzhou, known as ‘Wei Chang’, deck from north to south length of 40 meters, 15.4 meters high.
  • Weiyuan Tower
    The Weiyuan Tower is situated right in the center of the county town. With a platform built of bricks underneath, it has passages under the tower for pedestrin to go through, Built on the platform is a tower of three transoms in exquisite craftsmanship .
