Luoyang Peony Festival

Luoyang, known as the birthplace of the peony, celebrates its rich floral heritage with the annual Peony Festival, a vibrant event featuring a dazzling array of peony varieties and captivating folk performances. Officially opening in early April and continuing until early May, the festival reaches its peak beauty from April 13th to April 25th, offering visitors an unforgettable experience amidst the sea of blossoms and fragrant air.

The tradition of the Luoyang Peony Festival dates back to 1983 and has since become a cherished cultural event, earning recognition as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Over its 36-year history, the festival has evolved into a major attraction, drawing millions of tourists and peony enthusiasts each year.

At the heart of the festival lies the magnificent Luoyang National Peony Garden, established in 2001 and spanning an impressive 47 hectares. As China's largest peony garden, it boasts a stunning variety of colors, shapes, and fragrances, with approximately 500,000 peonies in nine different hues and over 2,000,000 plants representing 1,000 species. Among the highlights is the remarkable "Flower Goddess," a century-old peony standing at an impressive height of 2 meters (7 feet), captivating the attention of visitors.
