Born in Jilin, Jilin Province, in August 1986, Li replaced the then injured Wang Meng in 500m Short-Track Speed Skating on the eve of the Sochi 2014. Although she had an unfavourable start, she went on to win the gold after the other three skaters ahead fell off the track.
