Tainan Transportation

Tainan is one of significant traffic tubs and regional logistics centers in Taiwan. It can be available by air, train, high-speed railway and coach to get to other cities, such as Taipei and Kaohsiung. It’s easy to find Tainan Airport, Tainan High Speed Railway Station and Tainan Railway Station. However, the current overseas flights only have Hong Kong-Tainan, Wuhan-Tainan routes. People could arrive at Kaohsiung International Airport which is relatively close from Tainan, then by trains or high-speed trains to reach Tainan. 

How to Get & Leave There

By Air

At present, Tainan has only one airport, namely Tainan Airport. It was established during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. After the expansion of Tainan city, it is very close to the urban area. Currently open routes to and from Hong Kong and Wuhan.

Bus: No. 5, Red 3, H31 line to the Tainan Air Station.
Train: You can take the train to the Baoan station and transfer to the taxi for about 10 minutes.

By Train

Tainan is a significant transportation junction in Taiwan, so, it’s convenient for people to travel around. Located in the center of Tainan, train tickets can be purchased in the station. Tainan Station is a national monument of Taiwan. Train tickets to Tainan can be purchased at any train station in Taiwan.

Address: No. 4, Section 2, Beimen Road, East District, Tainan City
Located in the suburb of Tainan City, you can buy it at the station counter on the same day. The biggest difference between the high-speed rail and the Taiwan Railway is that high-speed rail saves time but costs more, and the traffic is not convenient.

Near Tainan railway station and high speed railway station, you can see the brands of major passenger transport companies. It is recommended to use more information from the Passenger Service Center. Here are some information about bus stations that you can take the bus.

How to Get Around

City Bus

Public bus services in Tainan extend in all directions. City bus is currently operated by Kaohsiung Passenger Transport, a total of 13 line bus. Bus fares in Tainan are 18 yuan at full price and 9 yuan at half price. All routes with electronic ticket (Yuyou Card, One Card, Taiwan Pass, E Pass Card) can enjoy a half-price discount within 2 hours. Remember to take some small changes as there are no conductors on many of the buses. Service time: 06:00-21:00

Tour Bus

Taiwan Haoxing Bus
At present, Taiwan Haoxing bus is the most convenient transportation to various attractions.

  • 99 Taijiang Line: From Tainan Railway Station through Anping District to Qigu Salt Mountain. The start station: Tainan Metropolitan Park. The bus stops along the route - Tainan Railway Station, Chihkan Tower (赤崁楼), Anping Castle, Tree House, Taiwan Salt Museum, and Qigu Salt Mountain. Running time: 9:45~16:55
  • 88 Anping Line: Starts rom Tainan Railway Station, then pass through Tainan Station to the central and western districts of the city center and the scenic spots of Anping District. Stops along the route: Tainan Railway Station, Taiwan Literature Museum, Confucius Temple, Chihkan Tower, Anping Fort, Tree House and Anping viewing platform. Running time:9:00~18:00

Taxi

When getting around Tainan, taxi is always a good choice. Tainan city taxi is charged by meter. The starting fare is 85 yuan for 1.5 kilometers, and 5 yuan for every 250 meters. But a 10-yuan service charge will be added to the luggage, and price will be slightly adjusted during the lunar New Year holiday.
Tips
1. When you get on the bus, you must write down the license number and the company of the taxi, so that you can find the baggage when you forget your luggage when you get off the taxi.
2. There are usually several empty cars waiting for there in the Tainan taxi waiting area. If you are in a place where there is no taxi waiting area, you can wave at a taxi and ask it to stop.
