‣Geographical Location
Jianshui County lies on the east of Yunnan province, the south edge of of east Yunnan plateau, and Tropical of Cancer runs through the county. The mountain area in Jianshui covers 3381 square kilometers, accounting for 89% of total area. The area of basin is 408 square kilometers, the largest basin is Jianshui basin, followed by Qujiang basin and Miandian basin. The highest peak in Jianshui is Wulao Peak of Huanwen mountain(焕文山五老峰), 2515 meters above the sea level. Atu village on the Honghe river bank is only 230 meters above the sea level, is the lowest point in Jianshui. Most rivers in Jianshui are part of Nanpan River system, south area is Honghe River system.

Jianshui County is located in low-latitude area and the Tropical of Cancer runs through the south of Jianshui, it belongs to subtropical monsoon climate. The climate has the characteristics of long sunshine duration, short frost days, high annual average temperature, heavy summer precipitation and mild winter.

‣Transportation
There is no airport at Jianshui County, you are supposed to get to Kunming first, and then two ways you can get to Jianshui, one is long-distance bus from Kunming to Jianshui bus terminal, it takes about 3 hours and a half. There are more than 10 buses every day. The other one is train from Kunming to Jianshui railway station, it takes about 3 hours by non-stop train. There are 5 non-stop trains every day.

Jianshui Shopping list includes Jianshui purple pottery, bird's nest, Jianshui pomegranate, steaming pot, lion cake, tofu, preserved tomatoes and so on. You can also taste local food like Jianshui grass shoot, roasted tofu, steam pot chicken, Jianshui rice noodle.
‣Ethnic People
Jianshui county is inhabited by Han, Yi, Bai, Dai, Zhuang, Miao, Lisu, Lahu, Wa, Naxi, Yao, Zang, Jingpo, Bulang, Buyi, Achang, Hani, Xibo, Pumi, Menggu, Nu, Jinuo, De’ang, Shui, Man and Dulong, etc, ethnic groups. Among them, Han has the largest population, about two thirds of total population, followed by Yi, Hui, Hani, Dai and Miao etc. The minority groups account for 33% of the total population.
‣History
In Tang dynasty, Nanzhao Country built a city in Jianshui and called it Huili City(惠历城), Jianshui in Chinese. Later on, Dali Country established Jianshui County. In Ming dynasty, it was called Jianshui Prefecture, which belonged to Linan seat of government, and set up Nalou Chadian Zhangguansi(纳楼茶甸长官司). In Qianlong period of Qing dynasty, Jianshui Prefecture was descended to Jianshui County.
