Basic Information

Geography

Anshun is located at 105°13′-106°34′ east longitude, 25°21′-26°38′ north latitude, in the watershed zone of Wujiang River basin of Changjiang River System and Beipanjiang River basin of Pearl River system, it is a typical karst landform concentration area in the world. Neighboring Guiyang City and Qiannan in the east, Liupanshui city in the west, Xingyi city of Qianxinan in the south and Bijie city in the north, Anshun is an important city in the central Guizhou economic zone. The average altitude of Anshun is between 1102 meters and 1694 meters, and the altitude of the whole territory ranges 560-1500 meters, which has the typical characteristics of mountain climate.

Climate

Anshun enjoys a typical plateau humid subtropical monsoon climate. Anshun rainfall is abundant, with the annual average rainfall of 1360 mm and the annual average temperature between 14-16℃. The climate in Anshun is mild and pleasant, with no intense heat in summer and no bitter cold in winter. The main features of Anshun's climate are cool, moist, fresh, and low solar radiation. In Anshun, the average sunshine duration in summer is only 4 hours a day, while in Lushan, HarbinChengde and other places, 7 hours or so. With short sunshine duration, coupled with much rain and cloud, the damage of solar radiation and ultraviolet radiation is prevented effectively. Therefore, Anshun people appear fairer skin than the residents of other highland areas(such as Kunming).

Administrative Divisions

Anshun has jurisdiction over 2 district, 1 county and 3 autonomous counties. In addition, Anshun has set up two management districts of Anshun economic development zone and Huangguoshu Scenic Area(national level). 

Anshun Culture

Anshun boats both ethnic culture as well as historical and regional culture. Anshun is a multi-ethnic city with a majority of Han population, followed by Buyi and Miao. In addition, there are more than 20 ethnic minorities, such as Hui, Dong, Yi and so on. Ethnic minorities account for 39% of the city's total population. What's more, with a long history and a deep cultural background, Anshun is a famous historical and cultural city in Guizhou Province. It owns unique historical and cultural legacies such as Chuandong culture(穿洞文化), Yelang culture, Zangke culture(牂牁文化), Tunpu culture and so on. 

Anshun is rich in folk handicrafts, folk art forms and ethnic customs, such as Anshun batik, Tunpu festive lantern, Tunpu Di Opera, Tiaohua festival, Si Yue Ba(the eighth day of the fourth lunar month) and Liu Yue Liu(Double Sixth Festival), etc. 

Transportation

Anshun is located at the center of southwest China, with convenient transportation. At present, it is available to get to this area by train, plane and long-distance bus. Anshun Huangguoshu Airport is located in Anshun city of Guizhou Province, 6 kilometers away from the city center, on the golden tourist line of Huangguoshu waterfalldragon palace scenic spot and other natural and cultural landscapes in western Guizhou. Anshun West Railway Station is a newly built high-speed railway station in Anshun city. It is a stop on the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, 12 kilometers from the Anshun railway station. It was officially opened on December 28, 2016. Besides, there are tourism special lines from Guiyang to Huangguoshu and from Anshun to Huangguoshu as well.

Accommodation

Anshun was once an important collection and distribution center for commercial goods, and nowadays, it is still the commercial center and important tourists city of western Guizhou. Therefore, it is quite convenient for tourists to find a hotel to stay in Anshun, ranging from luxury hotels economic hotels. Among so many Anshun hotels, you can choose to stay around scenic spots for the convenience of sightseeing, or stay around railway station and bus station for easy going out.

Things to Do

Huangguoshu Waterfall(黄果树瀑布)

Huangguoshu waterfall, one of the largest waterfalls in China and east Asia, is located on the Baishui river in Anshun of Guizhou province. It is 77.8 meters high and 101 meters wide. The main waterfall is 67 meters high and 83.3 meters wide. Huangguoshu waterfall is a typical erosion waterfall in karst landform. Huangguoshu waterfall became famous because of Xu Xiake, a famous traveler in the Ming dynasty. 

Dragon Palace(龙宫)

Dragon Palace is located in Xixiu District of Anshun city, Guizhou province, 35 kilometers away from Huangguoshu scenic area, 27 kilometers away from Anshun city, and 116 kilometers away from Guiyang. The main cave is called the dragon palace cave because it looks like the crystal palace where the dragon king lives. The dragon palace scenic spot integrates karst caves, canyons, waterfalls, peaks, cliffs, streams, stone forests, funnels, hidden rivers and other karst geological and geomorphic landscapes. It is the most comprehensive and concentrated karst geomorphic display scenic spot, known as "The karst all over the world is all in the dragon palace".

Tianlong Tunpu(天龙屯堡)

Anshun is known as "the land of Tunpu culture". Tianlong Tunpu ancient town is located in Pingba District of Anshun city, in the west of Guizhou province. It is 72 kilometers away from Guiyang city. Here is a distinctive group of Han people -Tunpu people, whose pronunciation, clothing, residential buildings and entertainment ways are completely different from those of surrounding villages. This unique cultural phenomenon of Han people is known as "Tunpu culture", among which Tianlong Tunpu is one of the most representative ones.

Water Resources

Located in the watershed zone of Wujiang River basin of Changjiang River System and Beipanjiang River basin of Pearl River system, there are a lot of rivers with large drop. Hydropower resource is rich, and the theoretical reserves of hydraulic resources 4.507 million kw, among which 2.959 million kw can be developed and utilized. 

Mineral Resources

Anshun is rich in mineral resources, such as coal, lead-zinc ore, bauxite, antimony ore, gold ore, barite, fluorite, gypsum, silica, calcite, magnesium dolomite and limestone for cement. Coal is an important advantageous mineral in Anshun city, and it is the main energy mineral for West-to-East power transmission project. 

Biological Resources

With large altitude difference and obvious three-dimensional climate, Anshun is suitable for the growth of a variety of plants and animals. More than 2000 kinds of medicinal plants have been identified, among which 406 of the 456 key medicinal plants in the national unified census are in Anshun, accounting for 89%.
