Passenger Transport Statistics
In 2023, the passenger transport volume in Foshan (佛山市) reached 23.4873 million people, an increase of 32.0% compared to the previous year. Among these, road transport accounted for 23.2975 million people, growing by 31.3%, while water transport recorded 189,800 passengers, a significant increase of 238.1%. The total passenger turnover was 2.098 billion person-kilometers, marking a 39.1% increase. Specifically, road transport contributed 2.087 billion person-kilometers (up by 38.4%), while water transport contributed 11 million person-kilometers, experiencing a remarkable growth of 1382.4%.
For freight transport, Foshan completed a total volume of 280,898.3 tons, which is a 7.3% increase from last year. This includes 21,555.83 tons from road transport (up 4.1%) and 6,534.00 tons from water transport (up 19.6%). The total freight turnover reached 34.613 billion ton-kilometers, a growth of 13.0%.

Shipping
As of March 2023, Foshan has 93 ports and terminals, navigating 78 rivers with a total navigable distance of 1,075 kilometers. The Xijiang River (西江), Beijiang River (北江), and their tributaries traverse the entire Foshan area. Foshan Port (佛山港) is a major inland port in China and an important hub in the comprehensive transportation system, serving as a feeder port for containers to Hong Kong and other major coastal ports, primarily transporting containers, energy, raw materials, industrial products, and construction materials.
Shunde Passenger Port (顺德客运港) serves as Foshan's waterway cross-border passenger transport port and has been in operation since January 1998. In March 2023, Shunde Passenger Port officially resumed operations.
In 2021, Foshan's major ports achieved a total cargo throughput of 93,408.9 tons, which represents a 0.6% increase over the previous year. Among these, container throughput was 3,707.3 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), a decline of 8.5%.
Aviation
As of March 2023, Foshan has a 4C-level airport, Foshan Shadi Airport (佛山沙堤机场), and plans are underway for the construction of a 4F-level airport at the Pearl River Delta hub (Guangzhou New Airport, 广州新机场).
Public Transportation
Metro System
The first operational metro line in Foshan is the Guangfo Line (广佛线). The segment from Kuiqi Road Station (魁奇路站) to Xilang Station (西朗站) opened in 2010, followed by the section from Xilang Station to Yangang Station (燕岗站) at the end of 2014. The second phase, from Kuiqi Road Station to Xincheng East Station (新城东站), opened at the end of 2016, and the segment from Yangang Station to Lizhao Station (沥滘站) was expected to open by the end of 2018. The planning for Foshan Metro Line 2 (佛山地铁2号线) and Line 3 (佛山地铁3号线) has been approved by the State Council, with a total investment of 49.81 billion yuan. The station locations along these lines have been basically determined. Notably, on December 28, 2021, Foshan Metro Line 2 commenced operations, and on December 28, 2022, the first segment of Line 3 opened. On August 23, 2024, the construction segment of Foshan Metro Line 3 began initial operations, simultaneously opening two sections from Zhanan Station (镇安站) to Zhongshan Park Station (中山公园站) and from Lianhe Station (联和站) to Foshan University Station (佛山大学站).

The main bus companies in Foshan include Yueyun Bus (粤运公交), Foguang Transportation (佛广交通), Shunde Bus (顺德公交), New Power Bus (新力公交), Hengtong Company (恒通公司), Hongyun Bus (鸿运公交), Hongming Bus (宏明公交), Guangming Bus (广明公交), Sanshui Yunfa Bus (三水运发公交), and Guohong Bus (国鸿公交). Fares range from 2 to 16 yuan.
Taxi Services
Foshan has multiple taxi companies, primarily including Foshan Automobile Group (佛汽集团公司), Shunanda (顺安达), New Cooperation (新协力), and Foguang Transportation (佛广交通). The fare starts at 8 yuan for the first 2 kilometers, then 2.8 yuan per kilometer within 12 kilometers, and 4.2 yuan per kilometer beyond 12 kilometers.
Public Bicycle System
Foshan has a comprehensive public bicycle rental system, with several stations located throughout the city. The system is divided into different networks, including those in Chancheng (禅城), Guicheng (桂城), and Shunde Daliang (顺德大良), allowing for flexible borrowing and returning of bicycles.
