Mount Everest Dining

We know the Mount Everest also called as Mount Qomolangma in China. Most tourists traveling here are fond of adventure. Since the high altitude and the harsh climate and the cold weather, the food is very important for people to make them be full of power. Food is the fuel for climbers, so here are some necessary food. We will also introduce some special Tibetan food.

‣ What to Eat in Mount Everest

1. Cheese (干酪)
There are two kinds of cheeses. One is the substance from milk after being extracted butter. After boiling, it condenses into the solid form before pressing it to the various shapes. The other is done by boiling in the buttermilk before drying it and cutting it into thready or granular shapes.

2. Tsampa(糌粑)

Tsampa is known as the national food of Tibet. Tibetan people may have this everyday. It is usually made of ground barley flour and often mixed with butter or yak butter tea.

3. Tingmo(馍馍)

Tingmo is a type of steamed bun or bread. It is usually served along with other foods but sometimes it is stuffed with meat or cheese. This is a good choice to stow your belly when you are very hungry.

4. Speculoos cookies(饼干)

This kind of cookie is very popular among foreigners and this cookie is imported from western countries. It provides foreigners with the convenience to have cookie they like and usually eat in their countries.

5. Chocolate(巧克力)

Chocolate is the best food to add energy. When tourists are hungry they can have a piece of chocolate. What’s more, the chocolate is easy to carry.

‣ What to Drink in Mount Everest

1. Water(水)

Water is the necessity during the course of climbing, so tourists have to carry boiled water along the trip.

2.  Tibetan wine (藏酒)
It is a kind of low wine at twenty to thirty degrees, made from wheat or highland barley after ferment. Fresh and mellow, Markam county and Yadong county is most famous for Tibetan wine. 

3. Buttered tea (酥油茶)
It is the main drink of Tibet. In the winter, you can dispel cold. If you feel starved, you can satisfy your hunger; if you are sleepy, buttered tea can assist you in relieve from fatigue. Hospitable Tibetans often entertain guests with this tea, so you are suggested not refusing them, otherwise you are considered impolite. 

4. Chong(青稞酒)

A type of beer is made from barley. It is served either at room temperature or very hot.

Where to Eat and Drink in Mount Everest

The location of Mount Everest is quite special. The only places where dining is served are the Rongbuk Monastery, the Everest Base Camp and a small village called Trashi Chhoe Dzong(扎西宗). Visitors are advised to prepare enough food and water in advance to replenish energy at any time.
