The Roof of Asia Explorer is a 13-day high-altitude birding and wildlife expedition across Qinghai Province and the vast Tibetan Plateau. Traveling through remote grasslands, alpine wetlands, desert basins, and mountain passes exceeding 4,000–5,000 meters, this journey focuses on locating rare endemics and iconic plateau species rather than sheer species count.

From the shores of Qinghai Lake to the rugged terrain of Kunlun Mountains and the highlands around Yushu, the expedition covers some of the most celebrated birding regions in western China. Daily sightings may be selective, but the quality is exceptional—featuring specialized high-altitude birds, pheasants, and elusive mammals such as Pallas’s Cat, Tibetan Gazelle, and Kiang. This is a true expedition-style tour designed for serious birders and wildlife enthusiasts seeking rare species in dramatic landscapes.

These edge habitats often host a mix of common lowland and early plateau species, offering a relaxed introduction to the region’s avifauna.

Birds (possible): Eurasian Magpie, Tree Sparrow, White Wagtail, Azure-winged Magpie, Black Redstart, Oriental Turtle Dove
