    1

Shangrao Arrival & Gexian Village (Ge Xian Village (葛仙村)) Experience

Upon arrival at Shangrao Railway Station or Shangrao Sanqingshan Airport, your private guide will meet you at the arrival hall and assist with luggage before transferring you by comfortable private vehicle to Gexian Village.

The drive takes you gradually from urban surroundings into a greener, mountain-framed landscape. As you approach Gexian Village, the scenery shifts into a stylized Taoist-inspired world with traditional architecture, flowing water systems, and misty hills in the background.

After hotel check-in and a short rest, begin exploring Gexian Village, a cultural retreat designed around Taoist philosophy and classical Jiangnan aesthetics. Stone-paved lanes, bamboo groves, wooden bridges, and reflective canals create a layered environment that feels like stepping into a traditional Chinese ink painting.

In the afternoon (around 14:00), the village activates its immersive cultural program. You may encounter rotating performances scattered across different streets, including shadow puppetry, traditional opera (Wu Opera and Yiyang tune), face-changing-style street acts, acrobatics, and close-up magic shows. Interactive folk experiences such as pitch-pot games, ring toss, and costume photo spots allow visitors to engage directly with local culture rather than simply observe it.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere gradually transforms. Lanterns begin to glow along rooftops and waterways, reflecting softly on the canals. The highlight is the Thousand Lantern Parade, which moves through the village with music, performers, and illuminated floats, creating a slow-moving river of light through the streets.

Later at Star Square, the night reaches its peak with sky lantern releases, fireworks, and a bonfire gathering. The entire village becomes a layered nightscape of light, sound, and movement.

    Overnight in Gexian Village.

    Day

    2

Wangxian Valley (Wangxiangu (望仙谷)) Cliffside Fantasy World & Nightscape

After breakfast, depart for a scenic 2-hour drive to Wangxian Valley, a dramatic canyon destination built within a former mining site that has been transformed into a vertical cliff village and fantasy-style landscape.

Upon arrival, the scenery immediately feels cinematic. Wooden houses cling to steep cliffs, waterfalls cut through rock walls, and suspended walkways connect different levels of the valley. The entire site is designed to be explored on foot, with continuous elevation changes that create shifting viewpoints at every turn.

Begin your exploration along the valley pathways leading toward White Crane Cliff, one of the highest viewpoints in the area. From here, you can see the full structure of Wangxian Valley, including layered cliff buildings, winding rivers, and mist drifting through the canyon.

The walking experience is a combination of natural geology and human creativity. Stone steps, wooden bridges, and cliffside corridors guide you through narrow gorges and open viewing platforms, offering alternating moments of intimacy and vast panoramic scenery.

In the afternoon, explore deeper themed areas of the valley where traditional-style architecture blends with cultural storytelling elements. Local performers, craft displays, and small installations appear along the route, creating a sense of walking through a living fantasy world rather than a conventional scenic area.

As night falls, Wangxian Valley becomes its signature highlight. Warm golden lighting spreads across the cliffside buildings, turning the entire mountain into a glowing vertical town. Reflections shimmer across water channels and stone surfaces, creating a strong visual contrast between darkness and illuminated architecture.

Explore Yanpu Old Streets, divided into themed lanes:

    • Workshop Street – handmade crafts and traditional skill demonstrations
    • Baiwei Food Street – regional snacks and local street food culture
    • Lingguang Street – retro-style alleys designed for photography and night strolling

The evening is ideal for photography, slow walking, and experiencing the valley’s dramatic night transformation.

Overnight in or near Wangxian Valley.

    Day

    3

Sanqing Mountain – Taoist Peaks and Cloud Sea Landscapes

After breakfast, depart for a 1.5–2 hour drive toward Sanqing Mountain, one of China’s most important Taoist sacred mountains and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The landscape becomes increasingly mountainous as you approach, with granite peaks rising sharply above forested valleys.

Take the Waishuangxi Cable Car up to the main scenic area. As the cable ascends, the terrain shifts into a world of cliffs, mist, and ancient pine trees. Once at the top, begin walking along the elevated skywalk system that wraps around cliffs and ridgelines.

The first iconic formation you encounter is Immortal Drying Shoes (仙姑晒鞋), a naturally shaped rock formation tied to Taoist mythology. The walking route continues through misty viewpoints and narrow cliff paths where visibility changes rapidly with weather conditions.

The two most famous landmarks of Sanqing Mountain appear along the main trail:

    • Oriental Goddess Peak (东方女神) – a rock formation resembling a seated female figure with flowing hair
    • Giant Boa Emerging from the Mountain (巨蟒出山) – a towering vertical granite pillar that rises dramatically from the valley floor

These formations are surrounded by dense forest, stone ridges, and drifting cloud seas, creating constantly changing scenery throughout the day.

The overall experience of Sanqing Mountain is highly dependent on light and weather—sunlight, fog, and cloud movement continuously reshape the visual landscape, making each visit unique.

After descending by cable car, transfer to your hotel near Sanqing Mountain for a restful evening.

Shangrao → Jingdezhen – Porcelain Heritage & Creative Culture

After breakfast, depart from Shangrao and drive about 2–2.5 hours to Jingdezhen, world-famous as China’s “Porcelain Capital.” The journey gradually transitions from green mountains into a more artistic and culturally rich urban landscape shaped by centuries of ceramic tradition.

Begin your visit at the China Ceramic Museum, one of the most important ceramic museums in China. The exhibition covers over 10,000 years of ceramic evolution, from primitive pottery to refined imperial porcelain. Ancient kiln relics, dynasty-specific collections, and modern ceramic artworks are displayed in a chronological flow that clearly shows the development of Chinese craftsmanship.

Continue to the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Museum, a national 5A scenic area that preserves traditional wood-fired kiln systems and historic porcelain-making workshops. Here, you can walk among ancient kiln structures and observe traditional firing techniques that have been passed down for generations. One of the highlights is the porcelain-themed performance, where all instruments are made of ceramic, producing a unique musical experience.

In the evening, explore Taoxichuan Creative District, a transformed industrial complex that once served as a porcelain factory. Today, it is one of Jingdezhen’s most vibrant cultural spaces, filled with art studios, ceramic boutiques, cafés, and design shops. The red-brick industrial architecture contrasts beautifully with modern art installations.

At night, Taoxichuan Night Market comes alive (especially on weekends), with hundreds of stalls offering handmade ceramics, creative crafts, and street food. The atmosphere is youthful, artistic, and highly photogenic.

    Overnight in Jingdezhen.

    Day

    5

Wuyuan Huangling Village → Huangshan City

After breakfast, drive about 1.5 hours to Huangling Village, one of the most iconic ancient villages in Wuyuan. The village is built on a hillside and is famous for its terraced layout and traditional “Shaiqiu” sun-drying culture.

Take the cable car up to the village, where your first stop is the Cao Family Ancestral Hall, a well-preserved Ming Dynasty building that showcases classical Huizhou architecture, intricate wood carvings, and historic plaques.

Walk along stone paths to reach the Sunbaking Workshop, the heart of the village’s famous Shaiqiu (晒秋) tradition. Here, locals dry seasonal harvests on bamboo trays and wooden racks, creating a vivid patchwork of red chilies, golden corn, and green vegetables. The visual effect is especially striking in autumn, when the entire village becomes a natural color palette.

Continue to the viewing platforms where you can overlook layered rooftops, terraced fields, and valley landscapes. The Leixin Glass Bridge offers a thrilling perspective, stretching across the valley with transparent panels beneath your feet.

In spring (March–April), the surrounding area transforms with vast rapeseed flower fields, creating a golden sea that blends with traditional village scenery.

After sightseeing, continue a 1.5-hour drive to Huangshan City and check in at your hotel.

    Overnight in Huangshan City.

    Day

    6

Mount Huangshan – Sea of Clouds & Granite Peaks

After breakfast, drive about 1.5 hours to the foot of Mount Huangshan, one of China’s most iconic natural landscapes and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

Take the park shuttle to Yungu Temple, then ride the Yungu Cable Car up the mountain. As you ascend, the scenery shifts into dramatic granite peaks, ancient pine trees, and deep valleys filled with mist.

Begin your hiking route in the North Sea Scenic Area, walking toward Begin-to-Believe Peak, where panoramic views open up across endless mountain ranges and cloud seas. The scenery here changes constantly depending on weather conditions.

Continue toward West Sea Grand Canyon, one of the most breathtaking hiking sections of Mount Huangshan. The trail winds through steep cliffs, narrow stone steps, and dramatic rock formations often compared to landscapes from fantasy films. The canyon offers alternating views of deep valleys and vertical cliffs, making it one of the most memorable parts of the mountain.

For travelers with more energy, continue toward Bright Summit (1840m), the second-highest peak of Huangshan, where sunset views can be enjoyed above the clouds. The golden light over granite peaks creates a surreal mountain atmosphere.

After exploration, check in at the mountain hotel and rest overnight on Mount Huangshan.

    Day

    7

Mount Huangshan Sunrise & Tunxi Ancient Street

Wake up early (around 5:00–6:00 a.m.) to experience the breathtaking Huangshan Sunrise, best viewed from Refreshing Terrace, a short walk from Beihai Hotel. On clear days, the sun rises over a sea of clouds, illuminating jagged granite peaks and ancient pine trees with golden light, creating one of China’s most iconic mountain scenes.

After sunrise, return to your hotel for breakfast, then continue hiking to key viewpoints, including Dawn Pavilion and Lion Peak (1690m). Here, the famous Stone Monkey Watching the Sea formation stands atop a cliff, offering panoramic views of surrounding peaks and valleys.

Walk along scenic wooden paths toward the cable car station and descend the mountain. Your private driver will meet you at the foot to transfer back to Huangshan City for lunch and some afternoon relaxation.

In the afternoon, visit Tunxi Ancient Street, a 900-year-old commercial street lined with authentic Huizhou-style architecture. Explore local shops, teahouses, and specialty stores selling ink, calligraphy, and traditional crafts. Next, visit the Hu Kaiwen Ink-stick Factory, where you can see how traditional Chinese ink sticks are made—a hands-on insight into an ancient cultural craft.

    Overnight in Huangshan City.

    Day

    8

    Hongcun & Xidi – Departure

After breakfast, visit two of the best-preserved ancient villages in China:

    • Hongcun Village – Founded during the Song Dynasty (960–1276), it is celebrated as “the village in a Chinese painting.” Stroll around Moon Lake, a crescent-shaped pond surrounded by white-walled, black-tiled dwellings, and visit Southern Lake Academy, an ancient private school. Hongcun’s layout is designed in the shape of an ox, and its scenic beauty was featured in the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
    • Xidi Village – Located about 10 km from Hongcun, this village is known for its elegant spacing, Huizhou-style architecture, and well-preserved ancestral homes. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xidi produced over 130 government officials. Today, 124 ancient dwellings remain intact, offering a window into the lives of historic imperial families.

After exploring both villages, your private guide and driver will escort you to Huangshan Airport or Huangshan Railway Station for your onward journey. Your 8-day in-depth Jiangxi & Huangshan tour concludes.
