Zhangjiajie National Forest Park | Avatar Mountains of Yuanjiajie & Tianzi Mountain

After breakfast, begin your adventure in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (张家界国家森林公园), China's first national forest park and part of the UNESCO-listed Wulingyuan Scenic Area (武陵源风景名胜区). The park is famous for its thousands of towering quartz sandstone pillars, many rising dramatically through mist-filled valleys, creating one of the most recognizable landscapes in the world.

Built directly into a vertical cliff face, it carries visitors 326 meters to the mountaintop in just over a minute while offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. Upon reaching the summit, enter the breathtaking realm of Yuanjiajie (袁家界), widely known as the inspiration for Pandora in the blockbuster film Avatar.

Follow scenic cliffside trails to some of the park's most iconic viewpoints, including South Sky Pillar (南天一柱), later renamed "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain," Lost Soul Platform (迷魂台), Backyard Garden (后花园), and the remarkable First Bridge Under Heaven (天下第一桥), a natural stone bridge suspended between mountain peaks. Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge & Tianmen Mountain

Following breakfast, depart for Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon (张家界大峡谷), a spectacular natural area known for its lush forests, waterfalls, deep gorges, and dramatic cliffs. The main attraction is the world-famous Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge (张家界玻璃桥), one of the most thrilling engineering marvels in China.

Stretching 375 meters across the canyon and suspended approximately 300 meters above the valley floor, the transparent bridge offers exhilarating views directly beneath your feet. Walking across the crystal-clear glass panels feels like floating above the canyon. The surrounding scenery of waterfalls, dense forests, and steep cliffs creates an unforgettable experience for both photographers and adventure seekers.

After exploring the Grand Canyon, continue to Tianmen Mountain (天门山), often referred to as the "Soul of Zhangjiajie." Board the world's longest mountain cable car, which travels nearly 7.5 kilometers from the city center to the summit. During the ascent, enjoy spectacular aerial views of forests, cliffs, and the legendary 99-Bend Mountain Road, also known as the "Road to Heaven."

At the summit, walk along the famous Glass Skywalk, a transparent pathway attached to the edge of a sheer cliff over 1,400 meters above sea level. Continue along the dramatic Cliff-Hanging Walkway, where breathtaking mountain scenery unfolds around every corner. Visit the peaceful Tianmen Temple (天门山寺), nestled among ancient forests, before reaching Yunmenxianding (云梦仙顶), one of the highest viewpoints on the mountain.

The highlight of the visit is undoubtedly Tianmen Cave (天门洞), also known as "Heaven's Gate." This enormous natural arch, measuring 131.5 meters high, is one of the most iconic landmarks in China. Often enveloped by swirling clouds and mist, the cave creates an almost mystical atmosphere. Descend via the famous 999 Steps to Heaven or use the escalator system while enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.

Zhangjiajie to Shangrao by High-Speed Train | Wangxian Valley Night Exploration

As the train speeds through central China, enjoy changing views of mountains, rivers, villages, and countryside landscapes. Upon arrival in Shangrao, meet your local guide and continue by private vehicle to Wangxian Valley (望仙谷), located deep within the mountains approximately 50 km from the city. After checking into your hotel, take some time to rest before experiencing the valley's most magical moment.

As dusk descends, Wangxian Valley gradually transforms into one of China's most enchanting nightscapes. Thousands of warm lanterns illuminate the cliffside buildings, bridges, waterfalls, and mountain paths, creating the appearance of a celestial city suspended among the clouds. The illuminated village resembles scenes from traditional Chinese fantasy films and Wuxia novels, making it one of the country's most popular photography destinations.

Wangxian Valley Day Tour | High-Speed Train to Huangshan

Wake up to a completely different side of Wangxian Valley (望仙谷). Under daylight, the valley reveals its authentic Jiangxi mountain-village character, showcasing beautiful Gan-style architecture (赣派建筑), waterfalls, streams, and traditional craftsmanship hidden among the mountains.

Begin your exploration by wandering through the ancient-style streets lined with stone houses, wooden balconies, artisan workshops, and local food stalls. The architecture reflects the traditional building style of northeastern Jiangxi, featuring yellow earthen walls, dark tiled roofs, and carefully preserved courtyards. Along the way, discover local handicrafts such as bamboo weaving, lantern making, wood carving, and traditional folk art.

Continue to the valley's famous cliffside viewing areas, where dramatic glass walkways extend from sheer rock faces high above the canyon floor. Walking along these suspended pathways offers spectacular views of waterfalls, forested slopes, and mountain ridges stretching into the distance. For photographers, the daylight scenery provides a perfect contrast to the magical atmosphere experienced the previous evening.

The valley is rich in water resources, and numerous streams, pools, and waterfalls flow throughout the landscape. Highlights include the impressive Wangxian Waterfall (望仙瀑布) and several multi-tiered cascades that plunge down the cliffs. The sound of rushing water combined with the surrounding greenery creates a peaceful and refreshing environment.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Wangxian Valley is its story of transformation. What was once an abandoned quarry has been creatively redeveloped into one of China's most innovative tourism destinations, blending environmental restoration, cultural preservation, and immersive tourism experiences.

After lunch and further exploration, transfer back to Shangrao Railway Station and board a high-speed train to Huangshan City (黄山市). Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening before your ascent of China's most celebrated mountain the following day.

Huangshan Scenic Area | Yellow Mountain Back Mountain & West Sea Grand Canyon

After breakfast, depart for Yellow Mountain (Huangshan, 黄山), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous mountain destinations in all of China. Revered for centuries by poets, painters, and travelers, Huangshan is celebrated for its "Five Wonders"—strangely shaped granite peaks, ancient pine trees, seas of clouds, hot springs, and winter snow scenery.

Upon arrival at the mountain entrance, take a shuttle bus to Yungu Temple (云谷寺) and board the Yungu Cable Car (云谷索道). During the ascent, enjoy magnificent views of dramatic cliffs, twisted pine trees, and rolling mountain ridges gradually emerging from the clouds.

After reaching the summit area, begin exploring the famous Back Mountain (后山) section of Huangshan. Hike through scenic mountain trails surrounded by centuries-old pine trees that cling impossibly to steep granite slopes. One of the first highlights is Begin-to-Believe Peak (始信峰), where many visitors first truly appreciate the extraordinary beauty of Huangshan. Famous pines such as the Black Tiger Pine and other iconic rock formations can be seen throughout the area.

Following lunch, continue toward the breathtaking West Sea Grand Canyon (西海大峡谷), widely regarded as the most spectacular section of Huangshan. Here, steep cliffs, deep ravines, isolated peaks, and twisted pine trees combine to create scenery resembling a giant traditional Chinese landscape painting. Depending on weather conditions and physical fitness, you may descend into portions of the canyon to experience its dramatic viewpoints and unique geological formations.

As the afternoon light softens, make your way toward Dispelling Cloud Pavilion (排云亭), one of the mountain's premier viewing platforms. This area offers magnificent panoramic views across countless peaks and valleys stretching into the horizon. If conditions permit, continue to Bright Summit (光明顶), Huangshan's second-highest peak at 1,860 meters, for an unforgettable sunset over the sea of clouds.

Before returning to your mountaintop hotel, you may also visit the famous Flying-over Rock (飞来石), a massive boulder seemingly balanced precariously atop a narrow stone pedestal. This iconic landmark has appeared in numerous Chinese films and television productions.

Spend the night atop the mountain, allowing easy access to the famous Huangshan sunrise the following morning. As darkness falls, the mountain becomes remarkably peaceful, offering a rare opportunity to experience one of China's natural treasures after the day visitors have departed.

Huangshan Sunrise Experience | Lion Peak & Hongcun Ancient Village

Rise early this morning to witness one of China's most celebrated natural spectacles—the legendary Huangshan Sunrise (黄山日出). Depending on the season and weather conditions, your guide will recommend the best viewing location near the hotel. As dawn breaks, watch the first rays of sunlight gradually illuminate the jagged granite peaks, ancient pine trees, and rolling seas of clouds below. The constantly changing colors and atmospheric scenery have inspired generations of Chinese painters, poets, and photographers, making this a truly unforgettable experience.

After enjoying the sunrise, return to the hotel for breakfast before continuing your exploration of Yellow Mountain's summit area. Follow scenic mountain trails toward Lion Peak (狮子峰), one of Huangshan's most famous viewpoints. Along the route, stop at Dawn Pavilion (曙光亭) and Refreshing Terrace (清凉台), both offering magnificent panoramas of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

One of today's highlights is the iconic Monkey Gazing at the Sea (猴子观海), a naturally formed rock resembling a monkey perched on a cliff edge overlooking a vast sea of clouds. This famous geological formation is one of Huangshan's most photographed landmarks and perfectly captures the mountain's blend of natural beauty and imagination-inspiring scenery.

After completing your mountaintop exploration, descend via the Yungu Cable Car (云谷索道) and meet your driver at the mountain base. Continue your journey to Hongcun Village (宏村), a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a history of more than 900 years. Often described as a "village in a Chinese painting," Hongcun is renowned for its beautifully preserved Anhui-style architecture, tranquil ponds, elegant stone bridges, and sophisticated ancient water system.

Stroll through the narrow cobbled lanes lined with traditional white-walled, black-tiled residences dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Visit the picturesque Moon Pond (月沼), the symbolic heart of the village, where centuries-old buildings reflect perfectly on the still water. Continue to South Lake (南湖), one of Hongcun's most famous photography locations and a setting featured in the award-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Explore important cultural landmarks including South Lake Academy (南湖书院), where generations of scholars once studied, and the impressive Wang Ancestral Hall (汪氏宗祠). You will also visit Chengzhi Hall (承志堂), often referred to as the "Folk Forbidden City" due to its lavish decorations and extraordinary examples of traditional wood, brick, and stone carvings. These masterpieces showcase the wealth and craftsmanship of Huizhou merchants during their golden age.

After immersing yourself in the rich history and timeless atmosphere of Hongcun, transfer back to Huangshan City (黄山市) for your final evening. Enjoy a relaxing night reflecting on the incredible landscapes and cultural treasures experienced throughout the journey.
