5 Days Zhangjiajie Avatar Mountains Photography Tour

After breakfast, begin your photography journey with a visit to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in China and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today focuses on capturing Zhangjiajie’s classic mountain scenery, including towering sandstone pillars, forests, valleys, and panoramic viewpoints.

First, take a cable car to Huangshi Village, one of the best viewing platforms in Zhangjiajie. Located at an altitude of around 1,080 meters, Huangshi Village provides a wide panoramic perspective of the surrounding peak forest. Photographers can capture dramatic scenes of rising stone pillars, mountain layers, and changing light conditions.

Walk around the summit area and photograph famous viewpoints such as Star Picking Stand and Five Finger Peak, where unique rock formations create unforgettable compositions. The combination of mist, sunlight, and towering cliffs offers excellent opportunities for landscape photography.

In the afternoon, continue to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and experience the world-famous Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge. Today’s route focuses on the spectacular landscapes of Yuanjiajie and Yangjiajie, where photographers can capture the surreal mountain scenery that inspired the floating mountains in the movie Avatar.

Start with the famous Bailong Elevator, the world’s fastest and tallest outdoor glass elevator. The elevator takes you from the valley floor to the mountain summit in a short time, offering a unique experience of rising through the cliffs and reaching the spectacular viewpoint areas.

Explore Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, one of Zhangjiajie’s most famous photography destinations. Walk among thousands of unusual sandstone peaks and capture the legendary South Sky Pillar, the natural formation that inspired the “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain.” Continue to Enchanting Platform, one of the best viewpoints for photographing hundreds of peaks rising dramatically from the mist, and visit the natural wonder of the First Bridge of the World, a stone bridge connecting two cliffs.

In the afternoon, continue to Yangjiajie, a quieter and less crowded area with impressive mountain formations. Photograph highlights including Tianbo Mansion, Natural Great Wall, Corridor of the Cliffs, and other dramatic landscapes. If weather conditions are favorable, capture the beautiful sunset scenery at One Step Under Heaven, one of Zhangjiajie’s most rewarding photography locations.

After the photography tour, transfer back to Wulingyuan for accommodation.

After breakfast, continue your photography exploration of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park with a visit to Tianzi Mountain, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the entire Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Known as the “King of Peak Forests,” Tianzi Mountain offers some of the best opportunities to capture panoramic views of endless sandstone pillars, mountain mist, and changing weather conditions.

Take the sightseeing bus to the summit area and begin your photography walk at He Long Park, the most famous viewing platform on Tianzi Mountain. From here, photographers can capture the incredible landscape of thousands of unusual stone peaks standing closely together. The area is especially impressive when surrounded by clouds and mist, creating the dreamlike atmosphere that Zhangjiajie is famous for.

Continue to Tianzi Pavilion for another excellent photography angle overlooking the magnificent Xihai Peak Forest. Depending on the season and weather, photographers may capture some of Zhangjiajie’s most beautiful natural moments, including sea of clouds, sunlight rays through the peaks, winter snow scenery, and dramatic mountain layers.

In the afternoon, leave the main tourist routes and head to Sanchakou, a quieter and more primitive area offering unique photography opportunities. Here you will photograph Fields in the Sky (Kong Zhong Tian Yuan), a rare landscape where traditional terraced fields sit on top of mountain peaks surrounded by towering cliffs. Start with the famous Tianmen Mountain Cable Car, one of the longest mountain cableways in the world. During the ride from downtown Zhangjiajie to the mountain summit, photographers can capture incredible views of the surrounding mountains, deep valleys, and the winding Avenue Toward Heaven (Tongtian Avenue) below.

At the mountaintop, explore Tianmen Temple, a historic Buddhist temple surrounded by forests and cliffs. The traditional architecture, mountain background, and peaceful atmosphere provide excellent opportunities for cultural and landscape photography.

Continue to the thrilling cliffside photography locations, including the transparent Glass Skywalk and the dramatic Ghost Valley Plank Road. Suspended high above the valley, these paths create unique compositions combining human structures with the powerful natural environment of Tianmen Mountain.

Next, visit the legendary Tianmen Cave, a massive natural opening in the mountain formed by geological changes. Capture the impressive scale of this natural wonder and the surrounding mountain scenery. Continue down the famous 999 Steps, then experience the spectacular Avenue Toward Heaven with 99 sharp bends, one of Zhangjiajie’s most recognizable mountain roads.
