4 Days Zhangjiajie Highlights Hiking Tour

After breakfast, meet your guide and driver to begin your first hiking adventure in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a UNESCO-listed natural wonder famous for its towering sandstone peaks, deep valleys, and primeval forests.

Start the day with a hike to Huangshi Village, one of the best viewpoints in the entire national park. The hiking route takes approximately 2 hours uphill, passing through beautiful mountain scenery and unique rock formations such as Arhats Welcome Guests and Southern Sky Column. Upon reaching the top at around 1,080 meters above sea level, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of countless stone pillars rising above the forest, often surrounded by mist and clouds.

Huangshi Village is known as the largest natural viewing platform in Zhangjiajie. Walking along the mountaintop trail, discover famous viewpoints including Star Picking Stand and Five Finger Peak, while observing the strange rock formations that resemble animals, people, and objects shaped by millions of years of natural erosion.

After exploring Huangshi Village, take the cable car down the mountain and continue to the peaceful Golden Whip Stream, one of Zhangjiajie’s most beautiful valley trails. This 7.5-kilometer-long stream is surrounded by green forests, clear water, colorful plants, and impressive cliffs. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the wooden pathway, listen to the sound of flowing water, breathe the fresh mountain air, and experience the quiet beauty of nature.

Along the trail, you may encounter playful wild monkeys and enjoy different seasonal landscapes, from blooming flowers in spring to colorful forests in autumn. The approximately 2.5-hour hiking experience through Golden Whip Stream offers a completely different perspective of Zhangjiajie — from the bottom of the valley looking upward at the magnificent peaks above.

After the hiking adventure, transfer back to your hotel in Wulingyuan for a relaxing evening.

After breakfast, continue your exploration of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the core area of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today you will discover the most iconic landscapes of Zhangjiajie, including the legendary Avatar Mountains, towering sandstone peaks, and spectacular mountain viewpoints.

Start your adventure with the Bailong Elevator, the world’s highest outdoor glass elevator. Rising 326 meters from the valley floor to the mountain top in only about 1.5 minutes, the elevator offers an exciting experience and impressive views of the surrounding cliffs and forests.

Arrive at Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, the inspiration behind the floating mountains in the movie Avatar. Walk along the mountain trails surrounded by hundreds of unique quartzite sandstone pillars covered with mist and greenery. Visit the famous Southern Sky Column, also known as the “Avatar Mountain,” and enjoy breathtaking views from Mihun Terrace (Ecstasy Platform), where endless peaks create one of the most unforgettable landscapes in China.

Continue to the remarkable First Bridge Under Heaven, a naturally formed stone bridge connecting two mountain peaks. Standing high above the valley, this unique geological wonder provides excellent photography opportunities.

In the afternoon, take a sightseeing bus to Tianzi Mountain, known as the “King of Peak Forests.” At Helong Park, enjoy panoramic views of dramatic peaks including Yubi Peak, one of Zhangjiajie’s most recognizable formations. Continue exploring the mountain viewpoints and admire the changing scenery of clouds, forests, and stone pillars.

End the day with a scenic cable car ride down Tianzi Mountain, passing through a landscape of countless sandstone peaks rising from the forest. After sightseeing, transfer back to your hotel in Wulingyuan.

Optional evening activity: Enjoy the spectacular Tianmen Fox Fairy Show, a large outdoor musical performance combining natural scenery, music, lights, and local legends.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to explore Tianmen Mountain National Park, one of Zhangjiajie’s most famous attractions and a perfect combination of natural wonders and thrilling experiences.

Begin your journey with the famous Tianmen Mountain Cable Car, one of the longest mountain cableways in the world. The 7.5-kilometer ride takes you from downtown Zhangjiajie to the mountain summit, offering spectacular aerial views of the surrounding valleys, forests, and the winding Tongtian Avenue (Avenue Toward Heaven) below.

Upon reaching the mountaintop, explore the scenic walking routes featuring dramatic cliffs and breathtaking views. Walk along the exciting Glass Skywalk, where transparent glass panels are built along the edge of the cliff, creating the thrilling feeling of walking above the clouds.

Continue to the famous Ghost Valley Plank Road, a cliffside walkway attached to the mountain wall. The route provides incredible views of deep valleys, steep cliffs, and the surrounding mountain scenery.

Visit Tianmen Temple, a historic Buddhist temple located on the mountain top, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature. Then take the escalator through the mountain to reach the world-famous Tianmen Cave, a giant natural archway formed by geological changes over thousands of years.

Descend the legendary 999 Steps (Stairway to Heaven) beneath Tianmen Cave and experience one of Zhangjiajie’s most unforgettable attractions. Finally, take the cable car or shuttle transportation back to the mountain entrance.

After the tour, your guide will escort you to Zhangjiajie Airport or railway station for your onward journey. The tour ends with unforgettable memories of Zhangjiajie’s spectacular mountains, valleys, and cultural landscapes.
