After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from your Chengdu hotel and begin your exploration of Dujiangyan, located about 1.5 hours from Chengdu. This area combines ancient engineering wisdom, Taoist culture, mountain scenery, and UNESCO World Heritage treasures.

Your first stop is the world-famous Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a remarkable 2,000-year-old water management project and the world’s oldest surviving non-dam irrigation system. Built around 256 BC during the Qin Dynasty by Li Bing and his son, this incredible engineering achievement continues to control the waters of the Minjiang River and irrigate the fertile Chengdu Plain, helping create Sichuan’s reputation as the “Land of Abundance.”

Explore the key components of this ancient system, including Yuzui Bypass Dike, Feishayan Floodgate, and Baopingkou Diversion Channel, and learn how ancient Chinese engineers used natural geography to manage floods and distribute water without blocking the river. Continue to nearby Erwang Temple, dedicated to Li Bing and his son, where you can appreciate traditional architecture, cultural relics, and beautiful views overlooking the irrigation system.

In the afternoon, continue to Mount Qingcheng, one of the most important Taoist mountains in China and the birthplace of Taoism. Surrounded by dense forests and peaceful mountain landscapes, Mount Qingcheng is known for its quiet atmosphere and ancient temples.

Visit Jianfu Palace, the first important Taoist temple on the mountain, featuring elegant architecture and historical inscriptions. Enjoy a short boat ride across Yuecheng Lake, then take the cable car up the mountain to explore the upper scenic area. Walk along peaceful forest paths to visit Shangqing Palace, where you can learn more about Taoist philosophy and traditions. Continue to Laojun Pavilion, the highest viewpoint of Mount Qingcheng, where you can admire panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Today brings the most unforgettable experience of the journey — a full-day Giant Panda Loving Care Experience at Dujiangyan Panda Base, where you will get closer to China’s national treasure and learn about professional panda conservation work.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda Dujiangyan Base. Unlike a normal panda sightseeing visit, this special program allows you to participate in conservation activities under the guidance of professional panda keepers and science educators.

Your panda volunteer experience begins with registration and safety training. After receiving your work uniform and gloves, professional staff will introduce panda habits, safety requirements, and the daily responsibilities of panda caretakers.

During the morning session, you will take part in habitat maintenance activities, including cleaning panda living areas, preparing bamboo, washing bamboo shoots, and helping transport food supplies. Through these hands-on activities, you will gain a better understanding of how much care and effort is required to protect these beloved animals.

You will then observe professional panda feeding and behavioral training sessions, learning how keepers monitor panda health, diet, and daily routines. The science education session provides detailed knowledge about Giant Panda biology, conservation history, breeding programs, and protection efforts.

After lunch, continue the panda experience with more interactive activities. You will learn how to prepare traditional panda food such as “Wowo Tou” (special panda steamed buns) and understand the differences between the diets of captive and wild pandas.

You will also participate in elderly panda care activities by preparing bamboo leaves and learning about rehabilitation programs for senior pandas. At the end of the program, receive your official Panda Experience Certificate as a special memory of your conservation journey.

After completing the panda activity, transfer back to Chengdu and check in at your hotel. The evening is free for you to relax or explore Chengdu’s food culture.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and begin the final exploration of Chengdu’s cultural highlights before departure.

First visit Wenshu Temple, one of Chengdu’s most famous Buddhist temples located in the heart of the city. This peaceful temple complex features traditional Sichuan-style architecture, beautiful courtyards, ancient Buddhist statues, and a tranquil atmosphere away from the busy city streets. Nearby Wenshufang offers a chance to experience traditional Chengdu culture through tea houses, local shops, and old-style streets.

Continue to People’s Park (Renmin Park), the perfect place to experience Chengdu’s famous slow-paced lifestyle. Sit in a traditional teahouse, enjoy a cup of local tea, and watch local residents spend their leisure time playing mahjong, chatting with friends, practicing folk activities, and enjoying everyday Chengdu life. This relaxed experience shows why Chengdu is often regarded as one of China’s most comfortable and livable cities.

Later, visit Jinli Old Street, one of Chengdu’s most popular historical streets. Stroll through traditional-style buildings, taste local Sichuan snacks, browse handicrafts, and enjoy the lively atmosphere created by folk performances and cultural displays.
