2 Days Kunming Wild Mushroom Picking Tour to Wuding and Jinning

Meet your guide and driver at your hotel between 07:30 and 08:00 and travel north from Kunming toward Fumin County (富民县).

After approximately one hour of driving, arrive at Banpo Tea Factory (半坡茶厂). During the visit, learn about Yunnan highland tea production and observe the main processing stages, including leaf heating, rolling and drying. You may walk around the tea-growing area, taste locally produced tea and learn about the development of the local tea industry. Tea purchases are optional.

At around 10:10, continue by road to Wuding County (武定县). The journey from Fumin to Wuding generally takes about 1.5 hours.

Upon arrival in Wuding, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. A typical seasonal meal may feature Wuding free-range chicken cooked with fresh wild mushrooms in a rich broth. The exact varieties served depend on daily market supply. Lunch on Day 2 is not included and should be paid for directly at the restaurant.

In the early afternoon, continue to Wuding Lion Mountain (武定狮子山) for a guided forest mushroom-picking experience. Walk through designated pine woodland and search for mushrooms with assistance from your guide. You will also learn about local mushroom varieties and safe collection practices. Unknown mushrooms must not be tasted or consumed.

Time permitting, enjoy a gentle walk along the forest paths and mountain boardwalks, with views over the surrounding Wuding countryside and the area near Zhengxu Temple (正续禅寺).

Later, visit the Wuding Wild Mushroom Market (武定野生菌市场). This seasonal market brings together local farmers and traders selling mushrooms collected from the surrounding mountains. Depending on availability, you may see boletes, green-head mushrooms, termite mushrooms, ganbajun mushrooms, matsutake and other local varieties. Your guide will explain their characteristics, common cooking methods and safe purchasing practices.

Depart from Wuding at approximately 16:40 and return to Kunming along the G5 Beijing–Kunming Expressway. Arrival in downtown Kunming is expected at around 18:10, marking the end of the tour.
