2 Days Jieyang Ancient City History and Culture Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and meet your guide for the second day of sightseeing.

Begin with a visit to the Former Residence of Ding Richang, the only surviving former home in China associated with the influential late-Qing official, scholar, and reformer. The residence follows a traditional Chaoshan courtyard layout and is famous for its so-called “ninety-nine and a half rooms.” Raised foundations, spacious halls, inner courtyards, winding passages, gilded woodcarvings, ceramic decorations, rounded Western-style arches, and classical columns create a distinctive blend of Chinese and Western architectural influences.

Continue to Nanpu Fishing Songs, a historic riverside area connected with Jieyang’s former water-transport and fishing culture. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, fishermen returned to the South Gate ferry at sunset, selling their catch along the riverbank while fishing songs drifted across the water. The scene became a celebrated image of traditional Jieyang life and reflects the city’s close relationship with its rivers and waterways.

Next, visit Jieyang Museum, an important center for understanding the history and cultural heritage of Jieyang and the wider Chaoshan region. Explore exhibitions related to archaeology, historical development, folk customs, traditional crafts, religious culture, regional commerce, revolutionary history, and intangible cultural heritage.

Enjoy lunch featuring authentic Chaoshan cuisine, known for fresh ingredients, delicate preparation, light seasoning, seafood, clear broths, braised dishes, and natural flavors.

In the afternoon, watch The Return of the Great Tide, an immersive stage production inspired by the history, migration, resilience, and cultural identity of the Chaoshan people. The performance uses Yingge Dance as its artistic core and connects themes such as overseas migration, ancestral traditions, maritime trade, community unity, and the protection of family and homeland. Holographic imagery, dramatic lighting, music, dance, martial arts-inspired movements, and large-scale stage design create a powerful visual experience.

After the performance, enjoy free time depending on the departure schedule. At the designated time, transfer to Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport, Chaoshan Railway Station, or another confirmed departure point, bringing the two-day Jieyang cultural journey to an end.
