This short but highly diverse Sichuan itinerary combines three of the region’s most iconic experiences: close encounters with giant pandas in a pristine mountain valley, exploration of an ancient Tea Horse Road town, and a visit to the world-famous Leshan Giant Buddha (乐山大佛). It is designed for travelers who want a mix of wildlife, culture, and heritage within a relaxed 2-day escape from Chengdu.
The journey begins in the lush forests of Bifengxia Panda Valley (碧峰峡大熊猫基地), part of a national scenic park known for its deep valleys, waterfalls, and fresh mountain air. Here, visitors can observe giant pandas in a naturalistic environment and enjoy light hiking through beautiful canyon landscapes. Nearby, the historic Shangli Ancient Town (上里古镇) offers a glimpse into life along the ancient Tea Horse Road, where tea once traveled from Sichuan to Tibet and beyond.
The second day focuses on cultural and historical highlights, starting with the awe-inspiring Leshan Giant Buddha (乐山大佛), a 71-meter stone carving overlooking the confluence of three rivers. Visitors can experience the Buddha either by boat for a panoramic view or by walking through cliffside paths for a closer perspective. The journey then continues to Huanglongxi Ancient Town (黄龙溪古镇), a well-preserved riverside settlement with over 1,700 years of history, traditional architecture, teahouses, and a relaxed countryside atmosphere before returning to Chengdu.
