    This 2 Days Chengdu & Leshan Giant Buddha Tour offers a compact yet in-depth journey through two of Sichuan’s most iconic highlights: the UNESCO-listed Leshan Giant Buddha and the relaxed cultural lifestyle of Chengdu.

    On the first day, travel from Chengdu to Leshan Giant Buddha, the world’s largest stone Buddha carved into a riverside cliff. Experience the site from multiple perspectives—walk down the cliffside trails for a close-up view of the Buddha’s feet, admire the statue from the mountaintop panoramic platforms, and enjoy a scenic boat cruise along the river for a full frontal view of the monument.

    On the second day, return to Chengdu to explore the city’s most famous attractions, including the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where visitors can observe giant pandas in a natural bamboo environment. Continue to People’s Park, a symbol of Chengdu’s laid-back lifestyle, and finish at Jinli Old Street, a lively cultural street filled with traditional snacks, handicrafts, and folk performances.

    Today’s highlights: In-depth exploration of Leshan Giant Buddha

    In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Chengdu and enjoy a comfortable drive of approximately 2 hours to Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Buddha statue is carved directly into a riverside cliff, facing the confluence of three rivers and overlooking the powerful water flow below.

    Standing at 71 meters in height, the Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest stone Buddha statue in the world. Its massive features include a 14.7-meter-long head, 10-meter-wide ears, 8.5-meter-wide insteps, and 8.5-meter-long toes—each detail reflecting ancient engineering precision. Built in AD 713, the statue was constructed to calm dangerous river currents and protect passing boats. Remarkably, after more than 1,300 years, it remains well preserved thanks to an internal drainage system designed to reduce weathering.

    Upon arrival, begin your exploration from the upper viewing platform opposite the Buddha’s head, where you can admire its full scale from above. Then descend along a narrow stone staircase to reach the Buddha’s feet, offering a dramatic “Lilliputian perspective” that highlights its monumental size. During peak seasons, queuing may be required for access to the stairway.

    After the land visit, continue your experience with an optional 30-minute river cruise, providing a rare frontal panoramic view of the Giant Buddha from the water. (Note: Boat operations may be affected by weather conditions, water levels, or operational safety requirements.)

    In the afternoon, return to Chengdu by private transfer.

    Optional evening activities:

    Today’s highlights: Giant Panda Base, People’s Park, Jinli Old Street

    After breakfast, visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the world-famous conservation center and home to over 100 giant pandas. Walk through lush bamboo pathways and observe pandas of all ages as they eat, play, climb trees, and rest. Visit the panda nursery to see adorable cubs, and explore the Panda Museum to learn about conservation science and breeding efforts.

    Continue to People’s Park, the best place to experience Chengdu’s relaxed lifestyle. Sit in a traditional teahouse and enjoy a cup of Chinese tea while watching locals engage in everyday leisure activities such as mahjong, dancing, ear cleaning, singing, and social gatherings—an authentic reflection of Chengdu’s “slow life” culture.

    In the afternoon, explore Jinli Old Street, a vibrant historical pedestrian street filled with traditional architecture, local Sichuan snacks, handicrafts, and cultural performances. It is one of the best places to experience Chengdu’s old-town atmosphere and lively street culture.

    After the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel, train station, or airport for departure or onward journey.
