Shanghai Transportation by Train

There are four railway stations in Shanghai, namely, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station, Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai West Railway Station. As the most developed city in China, Shanghai is an important hub connecting to many big cities, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, Xi’an.

Shanghai Railway Station

Shanghai Railway Station is the chief passenger station. The locals usually call it the New Railway Station. More than 70 trains run to big and medium-sized cities every day, including the D-series sleeper trains to Beijing and the direct express trains to Tianjin and Hong Kong.

How to Get There: Shanghai Metro Lines 3 and 4 are located on the north side of the station and Line 1 on the south. It is very easy to get to the downtown area.

Shanghai South Railway Station

Shanghai South Railway Station operates more than 30 trains every day, mostly long-distance trains to the south China and short-distance trains to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. There are also a small number of trains to YantaiBaotou and Lanzhou.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station 

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station mainly operates G-series and D-series high speed trains from Shanghai to all around China. The trains from Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanjing and Hangzhou to Shanghai will stop at Shanghai Hongqiao Station.
