    2026-01-12Yaso trip6993 wordsAbout 24 minutes

Imagine a journey that takes you from the floating Hallelujah Mountains of Avatar to a mystical village clinging to a sheer cliff, straight out of a Chinese fantasy epic (Xianxia). This isn't a dream; it's a real travel plan connecting Zhangjiajie National Forest Park or Wulingyuan National Park with the stunning Wangxian Valley.

A direct high-speed train now connects Zhangjiajie and Shangrao, the gateway to Wangxian Valley. This guide provides everything you need to know for an epic, seamless journey, offering insight into the routes, transport options, and tips to maximize your adventure.

At Yaso Trip, we are excited about this new connection that unlocks a breathtaking itinerary. We’ll show you how to easily navigate this journey and experience the best of these two awe-inspiring destinations.

Zhangjiajie to Wangxian Valley Distance & Map Overview

While Zhangjiajie’s sandstone pillars from Avatar and Wangxian Valley’s glowing cliffside village seem to belong to different worlds, they are only about 930 km (577 miles) apart. Thanks to China's high-speed rail, the journey between them is easier and more accessible than you might think.

Flight vs. Train: What’s the Best Option?

    • Direct Flights: No direct flights currently operate between Zhangjiajie and Shangrao (the gateway city to Wangxian Valley). You would need to transfer through major hubs like Beijing, Chengdu, or Guangzhou, which could be more time-consuming and tiring.

    • High-Speed Train: The high-speed train is a much better option, offering a more efficient and comfortable way to connect these two stunning destinations. The journey takes around 6–7 hours, depending on your choice of train.

    Train Routes:

    1. Direct Train: Currently, there is one direct train service running between Zhangjiajie and Shangrao, which takes approximately 6 hours.

    2. Transfer Option via Changsha: If you prefer more flexibility, you can transfer at Changsha. The total journey time is around 7 hours, but it offers more departures per day.

Step 1: Zhangjiajie to Shangrao by High-Speed Train

    Direct Train: G1367 - 6 Hours

The G1367 is currently the only direct train linking Zhangjiajie West Railway Station to Shangrao Railway Station.

    • Departure Time: 07:28 AM

    • Arrival Time: 13:39 PM

    • Duration: 6 hours 11 minutes

    • Fares:

      • Second class: ¥564 (~$79)

      • First class: ¥924 (~$130)

      • Business class: ¥1903 (~$270)

This direct train is convenient and comfortable, allowing you to arrive early enough to head to Wangxian Valley for a relaxed afternoon stroll and a stunning night view.

Plan B: Transfer at Changsha (Flexible & More Departures)

If the direct G1367 doesn’t match your schedule, you can break the trip into two legs by transferring in Changsha. This option gives you more flexibility and a wider selection of departure times.

Leg 1: Zhangjiajie West → Changsha

    • Duration: 1h43m to 2h20m

    • Fares: ¥166–¥377 (~$24–$53)

    • Departure Times: 51 daily departures between 07:00 and 22:00

Leg 2: Changsha South → Shangrao

    • Duration: 2h03m to 3h33m

    • Fares: ¥264–¥995 (~$37–$139)

    • Departure Times: 43 daily departures between 07:00 and 19:00

Total Journey Time: 6-7 hours (depending on transfer times).

    How to Buy Tickets

Booking the G1367 direct train is simple. You can easily purchase tickets on Trip.com or the official 12306 app, which are both English-friendly platforms. Tickets open 15 days in advance, so make sure to book early, especially for weekends and holidays.

If you’re transferring at Changsha, things can get a little tricky. Be sure to calculate sufficient time for the layover between trains and verify which Changsha station you arrive at. For a smoother experience, book through Yaso Trip, where we’ll handle the logistics for you—ensuring everything runs without a hitch.

Step 2: From Shangrao to Wangxian Valley (Local Transport / Transfer Options)

Once you arrive at Shangrao Railway Station, you still need to travel approximately 50 km (31 miles) to Wangxian Valley, which will take 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the transport option you choose.

Option A: The Budget Route (Tourist Bus)

    • Departure Point: Shangrao East Bus Station (a short ride from the railway station)

    • Schedule: 12 daily departures between 07:40 and 16:00

    • Duration: 1–1.5 hours

    • Fare: ¥30 (~$4.50)

    Pros:

    • Budget-friendly

    • Simple if the timing aligns

    Cons:

    • Fixed schedules

    • Limited evening departures

    • Potential language barriers

Option B: The DIY Convenience (Taxi / Didi)

Taking a taxi or Didi (China’s version of Uber) is the most flexible and convenient way to travel to Wangxian Valley.

    • Travel Time: 1–1.5 hours (depending on traffic)

    • Fare: ¥150–¥200 (~$22–$30)

    Pros:

    • Direct, door-to-door service

    • On-demand flexibility

    Cons:

    • Higher cost than the bus

    • Possible language issues or price negotiation (for taxis)

Option C: The Seamless Solution (Private Transfer)

For a completely stress-free experience, arrange a private transfer from Yaso Trip. Your driver will meet you at the station with a name sign, ready to take you directly to your Wangxian Valley accommodation.

    • Pros:

      • No waiting, no language barriers

      • Direct to your hotel or scenic area

    • Cons:

      • Slightly higher cost than the bus or taxi, but saves time and stress

Essential Tips for the Zhangjiajie-Wangxian Valley Trip

    Best Time to Go

    • Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) offer the best weather and scenery.

    • Avoid traveling during Golden Week (early October) and Spring Festival (February) due to high tourist volume and inflated prices.

    Train Tickets

    • Book your tickets early for the direct G1367 train (only one daily departure).

    • For the Changsha transfer route, ensure you allow enough buffer time for transfers between stations.

    Packing Smart

    • Carry a small backpack instead of a large suitcase, as both Zhangjiajie and Wangxian Valley involve stairs and narrow village lanes.

    • Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the mountainous terrain.

    Photography & Tech

    • Be sure to charge your devices fully before heading into Wangxian Valley—the night views are photogenic and worth capturing.

    • Carry a portable power bank for your camera and phone to ensure you can keep shooting.

    Accommodation

    • Cliffside guesthouses in Wangxian Valley are in high demand, especially for rooms with balconies offering the best night views. Book 1–2 months in advance.

    Language & Navigation

    • In Shangrao and Wangxian Valley, English may be limited. It’s highly recommended to download a translation app or arrange a private guide with Yaso Trip for smoother communication.
