Hong Kong MTR is the urban rapid transit system serving Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories, Lantau Island, and cross-border control points to mainland China. The first line, the Kwun Tong Line(观塘线), opened in 1979, marking the beginning of modern rail transit in Hong Kong.
As of May 2026, the network includes 11 main railway lines, over 99 stations, and more than 245 km of track, making it one of the most efficient metro systems in the world. It connects major districts, business hubs, tourist attractions, Hong Kong International Airport, and Shenzhen border crossings, providing seamless travel for commuters and visitors.
