Ningbo (宁波) offers one of Zhejiang Province’s most varied accommodation markets. International business hotels dominate the urban districts around Tianyi Square, Sanjiangkou and the Eastern New Town, while Dongqian Lake has developed a substantial luxury-resort cluster. Xiangshan specialises in seaside holidays, Ninghai in forest and hot-spring retreats, Xikou in scenic-area accommodation, and Yuyao, Cixi, Beilun and Zhenhai mainly serve regional business, family and short-break travelers.

Official statistics recorded 74 star-rated hotels in Ningbo at the end of 2023, including 21 five-star hotels. This figure does not include the much larger number of branded business hotels, independent hotels, serviced apartments, guesthouses and rural homestays operating throughout the municipality.

Hotel branding, management companies and operating conditions can change, so travelers should confirm the current Chinese hotel name and exact address before booking.

Understanding Ningbo’s Accommodation Geography

Ningbo is geographically extensive. A hotel listed simply as being “in Ningbo” may be in the central city, beside Dongqian Lake, near Xikou, in coastal Xiangshan or more than an hour away in Ninghai or Yuyao. Selecting accommodation according to the main travel area is therefore more important than choosing a hotel solely by brand or rating.

Central Ningbo Accommodation

Tianyi Square, Moon Lake and Haishu District

The Tianyi Square–Moon Lake area (天一广场—月湖片区) is the most convenient accommodation base for first-time visitors. It offers easy access to Ningbo Railway Station, Metro Lines 1 and 2, the main shopping district, traditional streets and central cultural institutions.

The Westin Ningbo (宁波威斯汀酒店) stands beside the Tianyi commercial district and is particularly convenient for travelers who want an international full-service hotel within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. The property has extensive conference facilities, an indoor pool and direct access to the urban centre.

Additional choices around Haishu include local upscale hotels, serviced apartments and numerous mid-range chains. Hotels near Longxing Road, Dongmenkou, Gulou, Moon Lake and Ningbo Railway Station generally provide the most convenient public-transport access.

This area is suitable for a first or final night in Ningbo, but rooms facing busy roads or commercial squares may experience more evening noise. Travelers seeking a quieter setting should request a higher floor or a room away from the main street.

Sanjiangkou, Old Bund and Jiangbei District

The Sanjiangkou (三江口) area occupies the meeting point of the Yong, Yao and Fenghua rivers. Accommodation here combines river views, proximity to Tianyi Square and access to the Old Bund.

Ningbo Marriott Hotel (宁波万豪酒店) stands beside the Yao River near Zhongshan Park and central Ningbo. Its river-view rooms, meeting facilities and location between the old city and Jiangbei make it suitable for both leisure and business stays.

Hotel Indigo Ningbo Riverside (宁波文创港英迪格酒店) is located in the Ningbo SCI Harbor cultural and creative district. Its design draws on Ningbo merchant and port culture, and the property provides river views with relatively easy access to the Old Bund.

Moxy Ningbo Old Bund (宁波老外滩Moxy酒店) offers a younger lifestyle-hotel atmosphere close to the Old Bund’s cafés, bars and evening activity. It is better suited to couples, friends and short urban stays than to travelers seeking a quiet resort environment.

Eastern New Town

Shangri-La Ningbo is also within practical reach of this district, while a range of Hampton, Atour and other upper-midscale hotels serves government, conference and corporate visitors.

Choose the Eastern New Town when the main priorities are modern surroundings, business appointments, larger hotel rooms and access to Ningbo Hankyu or the cultural plaza. Tianyi Square remains a better base for an old-city-focused itinerary.

Central and Southern Yinzhou

Sheraton Ningbo Hotel (宁波东港喜来登酒店) is a long-established international business hotel in Yinzhou, with convenient access to central Ningbo and urban transport.

Sheraton Ningbo Yinzhou (宁波鄞州喜来登酒店) serves the southern part of Yinzhou, while Fairfield by Marriott Ningbo Yinzhou (宁波鄞州万枫酒店) provides a simpler branded option close to the Southern Business District. Marriott currently lists both properties among its operating Ningbo hotels.

Southern Yinzhou is practical for business travelers, road-based tours and guests attending events in the Southern Business District. It is less convenient for travelers planning to walk around Tianyi Pavilion, Moon Lake and the Old Bund each evening.

Dongqian Lake Resorts and Hotels

Ningbo’s Principal Resort Area

Dongqian Lake (东钱湖) is Ningbo’s strongest resort-hotel district. Accommodation ranges from internationally branded luxury resorts and spa hotels to family resorts, boutique inns and local homestays around lakeside villages.

Park Hyatt Ningbo Resort and Spa (宁波柏悦酒店) occupies a low-rise, village-style complex on the lake shore. Its architecture, gardens, courtyards, pools, spa facilities and lake experiences make it one of Ningbo’s most distinctive destination hotels.

Hilton Ningbo Dongqian Lake (宁波东钱湖华茂希尔顿酒店) is positioned between hills and the lake and offers resort facilities suitable for families, leisure groups and conferences. Its location is several kilometres from the main urban area, so guests should expect to use a taxi or private vehicle.

Cordis, Dongqian Lake, Ningbo (宁波东钱湖康得思酒店) combines lake-oriented accommodation with spa and wellness facilities and remains listed within Langham Hospitality Group’s portfolio.

voco Ningbo Dongqian Lake (宁波东钱湖voco酒店) has 159 rooms, including family rooms, villas and rooms with private courtyard soaking pools, making it particularly suitable for family and small-group resort stays.

Other established options include Narada Dongqian Lake Resort (宁波东钱湖山水君澜度假酒店) and Howard Johnson Dongqian Lake Plaza Ningbo (宁波东钱湖华侨豪生大酒店). These are useful alternatives for families, hot-spring-oriented stays and guests arriving by private vehicle.

Where to Stay Around Dongqian Lake

The western and northwestern sides of the lake offer easier access to the city and metro-connected urban areas. Resorts along the southern and eastern shores generally provide a quieter setting but require longer road transfers.

Hotels near Hanling Old Street (韩岭老街) are suitable for village atmosphere, local food and walking, while larger lake resorts are better for swimming pools, children’s facilities, spas and multi-night relaxation.

Do not choose a Dongqian Lake hotel merely as a cheaper alternative to the city centre. Transfers can take considerable time, and resort restaurants may be the only convenient evening dining choice.

Jiangbei, Cicheng and Northern Ningbo

Cicheng Ancient County

Accommodation around Cicheng Ancient County (慈城古县城) consists mainly of boutique guesthouses, converted courtyard properties, small hotels and modern accommodation in surrounding residential areas.

Staying inside or near the old town provides quiet mornings and evenings, but dining and transport choices become more limited after the main visitor period. Travelers requiring an international breakfast, foreign-card support or late-night reception may prefer a central Jiangbei hotel and visit Cicheng during the day.

Zhenhai District

Zhenhai has fewer destination resorts than Haishu or Yinzhou. Its hotels mainly serve local business, universities, industrial parks and visitors to Zhaobao Mountain and the eastern port area.

Hampton by Hilton Ningbo Zhenhai Zhaobao Mountain (宁波镇海招宝山希尔顿欢朋酒店) is among the internationally affiliated upper-midscale hotels listed in the Ningbo market.

Guests visiting the old port and defence-heritage areas should stay around Zhaobao Mountain or central Zhenhai. Those with business in Zhuangshi or university areas should check the actual distance rather than choosing accommodation by district name alone.

Beilun District Accommodation

Beilun’s hotel market is oriented toward Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, industrial zones, free-trade areas, corporate travel and the Meishan Bay tourism area.

DoubleTree by Hilton Ningbo Beilun (宁波北仑世茂希尔顿逸林酒店) is located in Beilun’s central business district near Metro Line 1 and a major shopping area. It is suitable for port-related business travelers and visitors who want branded facilities without staying in central Ningbo.

HUALUXE Ningbo Harbor City (宁波港城华邑酒店) is another major upper-upscale option in Beilun and received provincial quality-hotel recognition in 2024.

Accommodation around Chunxiao, Meishan Bay and the China Port Museum has a more suburban or coastal character. These areas are considerably farther from Tianyi Square, so they should be booked only when the eastern port and coastal zone form a substantial part of the visit.

Fenghua and Xikou Accommodation

Fenghua Urban Area

Central Fenghua offers branded business hotels and local full-service properties, making it a practical base when combining Xikou with other parts of southern Ningbo.

Holiday Inn Express Ningbo Fenghua (宁波奉化智选假日酒店) provides a recognised international brand in the Fenghua urban area. The hotel is listed in the district’s 2025 quality-hotel directory and is also operating through IHG’s official booking system.

Other established Fenghua urban hotels include Howard Johnson Plaza Ningbo Fenghua, Fenghua Pacific Grand Hotel, Guangyuan Yijiangnan Hotel and local Tiangang or Nanyuan-managed properties. The official 2025 district list confirms that these and other quality hotels were operating normally.

Xikou and Xuedou Mountain

Xikou has the strongest scenic-area hotel concentration in Fenghua. Accommodation includes large traditional hotels, mid-range hotels, small inns and mountain-village homestays.

Xikou Yinfeng Hotel (溪口银凤酒店) is the largest established full-service property in the town and was listed as a normally operating five-star hotel in Fenghua’s 2025 directory.

Hotels close to Wuling Road are convenient for the historic town, restaurants and evening walks. Accommodation closer to Xuedou Mountain or in surrounding villages provides quieter surroundings but requires private transport.

Yuyao Accommodation

Yuyao’s principal hotels are concentrated around the railway station, the Yao River, the city centre and the commercial districts. Rural guesthouses and small resorts are scattered across Siming Mountain and the countryside around Hemudu and Liangnong.

Hilton Yuyao (余姚希尔顿酒店) opened in 2025 and is located approximately 300 metres from Yuyao Railway Station. Its design incorporates references to Wang Yangming culture, while its location is particularly convenient for railway travelers and business groups.

Fairfield by Marriott Yuyao (余姚万枫酒店) provides a newer upper-midscale branded alternative with dining, fitness and meeting facilities.

For Siming Mountain, Liangnong and rural village tourism, staying in a local guesthouse reduces daily travel time. Confirm mountain-road access, meals, heating, luggage assistance and the exact location before reserving a countryside property.

Cixi and Qianwan Accommodation

Cixi’s accommodation market serves manufacturing, commerce, family visits, Hangzhou Bay tourism and industrial travel. Most full-service hotels are located around central Cixi, while additional hotels serve Guanhaiwei, Qianwan New Area and the Hangzhou Bay Bridge corridor.

Hampton by Hilton Ningbo Cixi Shiji Avenue (宁波慈溪世纪大道希尔顿欢朋酒店) is located in Guanhaiwei Town and is convenient for the surrounding commercial and industrial area.

Central Cixi offers numerous domestic full-service and business brands. Travelers visiting Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park, Fantawild or Qianwan New Area should choose a hotel in northern Cixi or Qianwan rather than commuting from the old city every day.

Accommodation labelled “Cixi” can refer to the central city, Guanhaiwei, Hangzhou Bay or towns many kilometres apart. Always check the map before booking.

Ninghai Accommodation

Ninghai Urban Area

Ninghai’s urban hotel market is centred around Taoyuan Subdistrict, Tianming Lake and the railway-station corridor.

Sheraton Ninghai (宁海喜来登酒店) is a 321-room full-service hotel beside Tianming Lake. It offers restaurants, an indoor pool, spa, executive lounge and meeting facilities, making it suitable for business groups, families and travelers who prefer to stay in the county centre.

Urban Ninghai is a practical base for visitors combining several parts of the county, but it does not provide the same forest atmosphere as the hot-spring resorts in Shenzhen Town.

Forest Hot Springs and Wellness Resorts

Holiday Inn Resort Ningbo Ninghai (宁波宁海假日度假酒店) is located in the Tongpan Mountain area near the Tianming Mountain landscape. The resort includes natural hot-spring facilities, wellness services, family activities and locally inspired cultural experiences.

Ahn Luh Ninghai (宁海安岚酒店) is a villa-style mountain and hot-spring retreat in Shenzhen Town. It is intended for high-end wellness, private holidays and families seeking a destination-resort experience rather than convenient county-centre accommodation. The property remains included within the Ahn Luh brand portfolio.

Guests staying in the forest-hot-spring area should book meals, transfers and activities in advance. Public transport is limited, and a city-centre taxi may not be immediately available for the return journey.

Qiantong and Coastal Ninghai

Qiantong Ancient Town and the coastal villages around Ninghai Bay mainly offer small inns and family-run homestays. These are suitable for atmosphere and local interaction but may provide fewer English-language services, Western breakfast options or international payment facilities.

Xiangshan Accommodation

Songlan Mountain

Sheraton Ningbo Xiangshan Resort (宁波象山绿城喜来登度假酒店) is located in the Songlan Mountain coastal resort area. The property has 271 rooms and is designed for beach holidays, families, meetings and resort weddings.

Songlan Mountain is the most convenient Xiangshan area for travelers seeking a large contemporary beachfront resort. It is less suitable for visitors whose main interest is the old fishing port of Shipu.

Shipu and Banbianshan

Crowne Plaza Ningbo Xiangshan Sea View (宁波象山海景皇冠假日酒店) is located within the Donghai Banbianshan Tourist Zone near Shipu. It has indoor and outdoor pools, multiple restaurants and substantial family and conference facilities.

Shipu itself contains fishing-port hotels, local business hotels and numerous guesthouses. Staying in town provides easier access to seafood restaurants and fishing-port life, while Banbianshan offers a quieter resort environment.

Xiangshan Film and Television City

Hotels near Xiangshan Film and Television City (象山影视城) are mainly local resorts, business hotels and guesthouses. Travelers prioritising hotel facilities may prefer to stay in Dancheng or a coastal resort and visit the film city by car.

The film city, Songlan Mountain and Shipu are not within walking distance of one another. Choosing one hotel for all three areas can result in substantial daily driving.
