Yuanyang County is located in the southeast of Yunnan province, South section of Ailao Mountain. Its county seat Nansha town is 284 kilometers from Kunming, 71 Kilometers from Mengzi, the government seat of Honghe Prefecture. The followings are something about Yuanyang Transportation.

How to Get to & away Yuanyang County

There are three main modes of transportation, long-distance bus, train and self-driving.

1. Long-distance Bus

Lon-distance is a main way to get to Yuanyang. You can go directly from Kunming to Yuanyang by long-distance bus, or take long-distance bus to Gejiu/Jianshui first, then transfer to Yuanyang.

a. Yuanyang Xinjie Bus Terminal(元阳新街客运站)

It is an important transportation hub in Yuanyang county, mainly operating long-distance bus routes from Yuanyang to Kunming and from Yuanyang to other important cities in Yunnan province.

b. Yuanyang Nansha Bus Terminal(元阳南沙客运站)

It mainly operates the long-distance routes in Yunnan Province.

Kunming-Yuanyang

The distance between Kunming and Yuanyang is 322 kilometers, departing from Kunming South Station, it takes about 5 hours. Buses are not many, and ticket price is 140 yuan.

Kunming-Jianshui-Yuanyang

Departing from Kunming South Station, it takes 3 hours from Kunming to Jianshui. Buses are many, and ticket price is different from 60 to 83 yuan. There are many buses from Jianshui to Yuanyang. The ticket price is 30 yuan, and it take about 2 hours.

2. Train

At present, there is no direct train from Kunming to Yuanyang.  You can take train from Kunming to Jianshui Station, and then take regular bus to Yuanyang. It takes about 3 hours from Kunming to Jianshui by train.

Jianshui Station

Jianshui Station is located in Linan Town, Honghe. Trains operated at Jianshui Station are mainly short-distance.

3. Self-driving

You can Choose to drive to Yuanyang by yourself along the route of "Kunming-Yuanjiang-Honghe County- Yuanyang County".

Kunming to Yuanjiang(Kunyu expressway): 220 kilometers; 3.5 hours; expressway charge 85 yuan.

Yuanjiang-Honghe County(S216): 60 kilometers; 1.5 hours, no toll station. Road condition is good, but you should pay attention to falling rocks.

Honghe County- Yuanyang County(S216): 65 kilometers; 1.5 hours; no toll station. You can view Honghe river landscape along the road.

4. Airplane

At present, there is no airport in Yuanyang, you can't go to Yuanyang by plane. Yuanyang airport is under plan and construction, in the coming years, taking flight to Yuanyang could be available.

How to Get around Yuanyang County

The local transportation modes in Yuanyang are bus and charted minibus.

1. Regular Bus

There are regular buses from Xinjie town to other villages and townships. The most common vehicle in Yuanyang is minibus, mostly contracted by private contractors, which travels between townships and villages with flexible departure times.

The specific conditions of common routes are as follows:

To Duoyishu: The first bus is 7:30, last bus is around 18:00-19:00, tickets are 5 each.

To Shengcun: The first bus is 10:30, last bus is 16:00, tickets are 5 each.

To Ganiang(噶娘): Three departure times, 12:00, 13:30 and 16:30.

To Panzhihua, Huangmaoling, Huangcaoling, Habo Village, Ezha and Lvchun: The first bus is around 7:30, while the last bus is about 18:30.

Tip: Due to weather and other reasons, the departure time of local regular bus could be changed. Once that happens, you are suggested to consult local drivers or bus terminal, so as not to delay the trip.

2. Charted Vehicle

If you are pressed for time in Yuanyang, the most convenient way is to charter a minibus that can seat 7 people. The price is commonly 300 yuan/car/day. Some hotels or inns can provide tourists with driver’s cotact information or charter service, you can consult.
